Transplanting the LSD between Sierra diffs

Is this possible? Say I've got a 3.62 LSD but want a 3.14, however it's just an open diff. Can I remove the LSD gubbins from the 3.62 and stick it in the 3.14?

Thanks

as long as your swapping 7" to 7" (or 7.5" to 7.5" ) then yes
so 3.62 to 3.14 should be no problem
(a 3.64 wouldn't work though as its a 7.5" )

one other thing to consider is that the ford 7" LSD's all use the 100mm bolt-on CV's and none of them ever had push-in driveshafts

These bolt-on stub axles for the LSD are unequal lengths
Unlike the open diff's with bolt-on shafts which have equal lengths (and can be swapped for push-in shafts the right size)

so if you want the bolt-on shafts then the Ford LSD (with its special unequal stub axles) is all you need - but if you want push-in shafts your out of luck
You can make hybrid shafts if your ones are the right size, but its not a perfect solution, or you can swap the whole rear end for the bolt-on type, but this means swapping everything including to discs instead of drums (at least without a lot of custom work...)

Thank you, that’s very useful

You can only transfer the LSD you must leave the crown wheel with the matched pinion or transfer both
