Side panel cutouts

I've sketched out a card template for the holes I need to cut in my side panel. I had intended to try to keep as much material as possible but do I just chop out the whole bit that i've shaded in the picture below?

I would guess that piece will snap off anyway if it's not got anything supporting it from behind? (Assuming it's GRP not alloy )

If you can put a decent radius in the corners (ie. drill it first, then cut it in between) then you'd have a bit more holding on to the shaded bit
then it'll probably ok as long as its fixed something behind it
