Cortina Mk 5
FiredragonCT - 2/6/06 at 07:11 AM

Hi Everyone - I am in the planning stages of my build... And realy a newbie at this

I am doing a book build but I am planning on using the nissan CA18DET motor and transmission. That having been said, here is my question - Would a Mk5 Cortina work as a donor car for the rest of the bits? IE Uprights, steering, brakes, diff, rear axle etc?

What other parts wouldI need that will not be suitable from the Mk 5?

I know these questions probably get asked often - would appreciate if someone could help me out or simply point mein the right direction!

Many thanks in advance....

Cortina is a spot-on donor Imho you will need the steering rack from an mk2 escort still. Rally design do a new one over here for £50, Postage may be a touch steep

Ditto previous post. I would use cortina as main donor. Pinto is ok but as you already know, there are a lot better engines out there for this type of car.

What engines would you recommend? And is the CA180DET one of them?

I would recommend anything with a good power to weight ratio. Bike engines are ideal.

Best to use an engine that others are using such as:

car: ford xflow, ford zetec, toyota (not sure which model)

bike: yamaha r1, honda fireblade, suzuki hayabusa, kawasaki zx12r.
