Weights for IVA
smartracer - 19/7/10 at 08:47 PM

I've managed to weigh my Tiger 6 but I'm unsure what figures to put in the boxes on the IVA form.
Axle 1 and 2 are obvious but what about axle 3? and Train?

Leave axle 3 blank(you only have 2), train is for a trailer so again leave blank. The weights for axle 1+2 are for max gross weight. not what it weighs. Most put 500, 500, gross 1000, although it varies by make/model.

They'll weigh it at IVA, with a full tank, add a fixed amount for driver/passenger and luggage and your figure has to be higher than that.

The figure given in the Westfield manual are:

Axle 1 425 kg
Axle 2 500 kg
Axle 3 blank
Gross 900 kg
Train blank

First and this important, it's not the actual weight but what the axles are designed to take.
The IVA will weigh your axle weights then add 75Kg per seat and 15Kg per person for luggage.
Tiger should be able to advise you, the minimum is about 450 per axle for a Locost.
Axle 3 you don't have one so leave blank.
Train weight is for towing you won't fill this in but would be car all up design weight + about 2/3rds move for the trailer.

Thanks for all your replies
I've made the calculations as per IVA manual to the measured weights and the axle weights come out as:
Axle 1 353Kg
Axle 2 382Kg
Gross 735Kg
Seems to me if these are supposed to be the design weights and,the car is weighed again at the IVA inspection maybe I should add on afew more Kg just to be on the safe side in case I've made a mistake, or my scales aren't that accurate.

As long as the weight you put is more than thier weighed and calculated weight then you're OK. It's not used for the brake test; They use thier figures for that.

I'd put 500, 550, 1050. Have you asked Tiger?

I recently asked Luego exactly this question - and was surprised at the figures he answered with - as several of the other locosters have already said, the weights for the form have nothing to do with the ACTUAL WEIGHT of the car - they are asking for DESIGN WEIGHTS.

Luego quoted me 550 front, 500 rear.

This is what I will be putting on my form when I reach that point, and I (and others) suggest you forget your 353 and 382, you are setting yourself up for an easy fail.

By the way - good luck on the day

Spoke to Tiger and they said
to put on the form
450 front
500 rear
950 gross,
as these are 'design weight' and not the actual weight of the vehicle.
and not to stamp it on the VIN plate but leave it blank

Sounds pretty familiar to me! Good luck with your IVA test.
