front uprights & hubs
sa-fabrication - 3/9/12 at 08:51 PM

I need to start considering what hubs and uprights to use on my build thats similar to the Locost design.

I have looked at some nice ally cortina hubs but at present & particualry with christmas rapidly approaching the wife wont allow. So as a tempoary measure I want to fit some bog standard cheapo uprights, but the question is which ones?

The book shows some hidious looking tube coming out of the top of the upright. I most certainly do not want this!

Any advice would be most welcome!

Thanks
Steve

Well as you've already decided you want to eventually upgrade to ally Cortina ones, surely the logical step is to buy some standard cortina uprights from ebay?
Theres always plenty for sale and with a lick of paint are good to go!

Hth, Mark.

I think the ones with the tube out of the top are ford sierra ones.

If it's the RonChampion book then it'll be Escort hubs in the picture and if Haynes Roadster then Sierra.

If you want to upgrade later to Cortina ally hubs then the obvious fitment is Cortina cast hubs for now as said above.

The other option is the Triumph (Herald?) hubs as used by Caterham (and Sylva J15).

The Champion book is cortina upright not escort.
The picture in question is an E30 BWM upright (page 77 of the new book) is shown as an example of how to use a dummy strut to get around lack of height in the upright. Not a good idea IMO.
