I've used an old, nearly worn out Scotchbrite pad which gives a matt polished finish.
Unless there's salt around the panels then adopt their own dull finish due to oxidisation.
Just test somewhere out of sight to make sure it's the finish you're after before attacking the whole car.
Alternatively Autosol gives a nice polished shine and some protection but quite laborious.
HTH.

I'm looking for something to clean up the sheet of ali I've recently acquired.....

Its got a layer of sticky plastic on it..

Any ideas how to get it off?

Aluminium should be polished using elbow grease,

then finished off with copious quantities of love & care.

Alternatively do what I did and buy an electric polisher.

Peel the plastic with the aid of hair dryer then clean glue residue with D-limonene based degreaser.

Don't rate Solvo Autosol my self I've tried loads of different types Maguires all metal Polish is good and easy to get hold of but by far the best I've found is California Customs Original Metal Polish but can be difficult to get hold of. First time I used it I thought this isn't any good as it didn't feel like it was polishing so I wiped it off and was amazed at the difference

I've seen this stuff online and a video on YouTube but never bit the bullet but judging by your comments I might make the purchase

Well worth the expense , I brought mine at Stoneleigh a few years ago and still have half a bottle . Unfortunately the only Europeon importer now is in Spain AFAIK
