Escort fuel sender
Roland - 12/10/10 at 06:19 PM

Greetings, When I first put my Locost on the road (a number of years ago) I installed an Escort Mk2 standard dash with a Mk2 satndard fuel sender. This was upgraded to a GL dash with rev counter. In both cases the original fuel sender and gauge worked (although the reading was always a little inaccurate.) I have recently changed the GL dash for one from a Mk2 RS ( three gauges in middle, two either side.)

Now the fuel gauge will not register. If I earth the sender, the neddle on the gauge reads full, so I know the wiring is correct. If I wire up sender correctly no movement. I understand about the Ohms readings, but am puzzled as to why two Escort dashes with different layouts would work and an RS one won't.

any advice on a possible solution would be appreiciated.

Have also tried the RS fuel gauge with a Sierra fuel sender and get the same result.

I fitted an RS 2000 dash to mine after having a standard Escort dash. It's been a long time but I seem to remember that although the plug is the same, it is wired differently. My fuel gauge works with the Escort sender. I also had to modify the printed circuit for the warning lights because that was different too. Trace the printed circuits, it's something to do with a shared earth, or a separate earth on one or other dash. I'd have to take my dash out to be sure.

Hi David
Have checked the plug wiring and it is all ok.
You are right when fitting an Rs dash you need to change round some of the connectors. Didn't need to do any modifications on the board. All the other lights, warning etc)and gauges on dash work ok.

Have traced/checked all lines on the board and can't see any issues.

Steve !

yes am still around.

You can't beat a "proper" Locost

Car has had some work done on it recently. Finally got round to putting in a 5spd box, and spent some money on a new stainless exhaust, curtesy of Martin. Maybe I need to update my Avatar

good to hear from you
