Lotus Europa (stack?) dash help
plentywahalla - 2/12/10 at 05:28 PM

When I bought my engine (2005 Lotus Europa S) it came complete with key switch, ecu, loom and dash.

This is back of the dash showing the plug connections. There is the 24 pin which I have seen on other lotus and VX220 dashes. But on this dash there is another 10 pin plug which I cannot find any reference to on any forum.

The breakers, who up to this point had been very helpful, insisted that there was no other plug on the dashboard loom. They got a bit shirty when I suggested that they might double check in case they were mistaken.

Anybody shed any light?

My VX220 had the same..

I ignored it. Assumed it was something like diagnostic, but theres no mention of it on the TIS or EPCs for the vx220 that i could find.

Off the top of my head.
Phone your nearest Lotus dealer and offer to buy half a hour workshop time and talk to them.

The later ones are multiplex/canbus so it maybe its a future 'expansion port?!'

The canbus leads to fun and games when wiring in to a car with a standard loom, mainly the coolant as its pulse fed. But I assume you are wiring the whole kit and caboodle in?

Thanks for the info Loggyboy.

Yeah I am planning to use it all, but I am still going to have a lot of unused inputs like door sensors, seatbelt sensors etc. which I understand are all linked in on the canbus.

How did you overcome these? any advice would be useful.

i dont know about the lotus's (sp?) but on the vx220's only the 2.2 engines had Stack Dashes. on the turbos vauxhall had a copy that looked exactly like a stack dash.

my turbo had the ports you had above.

Thanks Mikefellows ... But did the smaller port have a plug in it?

As mentioned above, mine wasnt a stack as it came from a turbo (hence the tornado name, which is an internal lotus/GM name for the vx220/speedster). I think ive heard the name thurgood mentioned before. Some later elise also had the non stacks. Identifiable by the lack the vertical stack X3 logo.

Mine was wired up to a redtop and everything worked fine expect the coolant sensor, so i wired in a seperate gauge. The fuel gauge worked in reverse but that was just down to the standard nova sender being the opposite way to the signal the dials expected.

Apologies if you have already seen this, but wiring list is on the following post:

I have an unmarked dash - but its definately a Stack unit!

temp gauge needs a pulse input, so not compatible with normal senders.
Speedo on mine needs 6.4 Hertz per mile per hour

Dave.
