OK. Baking hot and working in the garage has finally fried my brain.

I am still having issued with my battery light. I can get it to not work at all or stay on permanently, but not to work correctly. I checked and double checked the wiring. I have the alternator wired as below:

Now. I have taken the following reading with my multimeter but for the life of me can not see what i have done wrong:


Ignition off Ignition On Engine Running
Pin 1 0 10.39 13.87
Pin 2 0 0 0.28
Pin 3 0 11.94 11.94
Pin 4 12.27 12.21 14.15
Battery. 12.27 12.21 13.98
Dash Warning Light 0 10.37 11.95

Can anyone see what i am doing wrong??

Have you got another bulb in the circuit as well as the bright 6 led for the battery light, using the bright six alone doesnt seem to pull enough current to excite the alternator to switch on the charging circuit.

Stick a normal bulb on the same circuit and if it still stays on then you have another problem.

I tried a normal dash bulb and had the same issue. Did not try the bulb in series but not sure this would make any difference?

Wouldnt make any difference so as long as you've tried it, must be something to do with how the alt is wired up, can you fix the alt wiring link so we can see how its wired.

Interesting that below that it says:

Four connectors B - (Type 2)
Alternative to above.
1. Connect to a permanent Live
2. Connect to a switched Live
3. Connect to the ignition light
4. Connect this straight to the Battery

This did not work on my alternator, the ignition light did not work but it was outputting charge to the battery, it may work on your alternator.

And you bulb isnt working and you also have 13.9v at the battery when running which means its charging too.

Yer. Read that bit too got all excited and it made no difference.

Could te issue be that the switched live that I use at the bulb and the alternator are not one in the same. They are both switched lives but from different sources?

Doubt it would make any difference but you could confirm by throwing a couple lengths of wire over the top and connect them up to the same source just for test purposes.

Hi guys.

The saga continues with the battery warning light.

Hooked up a non led warning light and rechecked the wiring and still nothing.

Now I have taken the alternator off the car and all of the pins connect to earth. I am sure this is not right??

Does anyone know how to test the pins? What readings should I be getting? I get the feeling that all the pins going to earth is no right.

Any ideas.
