You want to get Haynes latest book - "Make your own wedding ring for 250 pounds". All you need is to find a few diamonds in your local scrap
yard. When Ron went a few years ago there where hundreds although I believe they're a bit thin on the ground now.
I believe the second edition has a section on making babies.
Anyway, why buy a ring - you've got a lathe, show her how much you love her and make one!
