5 way connector
samjc - 3/12/12 at 06:52 PM

Hi all, unsure if I am posting this in the correct place as it is about my tin top. I recently tryed taking the family out to discover all my deisel on the roadside from my td4 landrover freelander. I have been imformed (RAC) that it was vandalised as a 5way fuel connector located on a chassie rail behind the passangers side from wheel arch. Called landrover and was told search breakers as the part is from a kit that costs £406 (not including VAT) so for the past 3daus I have been hunting and calling all over. Only lead I have is to use and modify a bmw part but thort id ask the great minds of locosters first. So any help would be great as it is the daily driver.

Got a photo of it? I'm sure enough of us are in scrapyards often enough to keep en eye out for one.

Edit: http://www.breakeryard.com/ is handy too.

This sort of problem isn't uncommon on all sorts of cars usually caused by corrosion I have done a lot of this sort of repair on the SRS connectors on Rovers
The best cure is just to buy an off the shelf general purpose plug & socket connector pair and spend half an hour or so fitting it. Alternatively use heat shrink sealed crimp wire joiners or heat shrink tubing and do a soldered splice.

The quick and dirty fix js just to use Scotchlok connectors to by-pass the bad connection - but this can be prone to corrosion later in the vehicles life and Scotchloks don't work so well on the wires used in modern cars.

Confused but excited. - 3/12/12 at 11:14 PM

That is what boils my pee these days! Everything is part of a set/kit/package.
Nobody sells spare parts anymore.
I broke the wing mirror glass on an Astra 15 years ago, to be told that I would have to buy a whole new mirror, inside and out for only £152! £10 dearer that one from a bloody BMW! Yes Lookers in Liverpool, that was you.
Sorry if my rant constitutes a hijack. not meant that way, more of a sympathy vote.

Unsure how to put pictures on posts im afraid. As for making something up im unsure if the original is made with any spacific flows ie one way valve but due to the size I dont belive it will but is a case of removing the old broken component and testing see if it can be made up from a handful of off the sheft connectors.

I did a quick google and apparently you can buy just the connector from BMW.

Have a look at this thread on a Landy forum there is a picture that give the part number.
