Does anyone know whether theres any internal difference in oil filters, my current zetec filter is too long, i'd like to replace it wiith one of similar capacity but stubbier something like a pinto 4inch diam by 4 ling instead of 3x6 for the efl 600 zetec. the thread and sealing ring is the same on the pinto filter, just not sure whether the internals are ok for the more modern lump??

Not sure of internal differences but there are a few Ford filters that work OK. I have previously used (in my old Tiger with a Zetec) a filter from a CVH'd Sierra .. About half the length of the Mondeo monster filter.

I have also seen people use a filter from a Renault 5 turbo .. It's 'very' short though.

Coopers oil filter E107 is ideal for this, its what all the big boys use, like Westfield etc, on their Zetec installations. Its tiny.

It works on other engines as well. I have one in stock if you need it £6.

the other one on my list is crossland 659

What is very rairly displayed on car filters is thier through put (measured in litres per minute) and how course the filter is (measured in microns).

These are just as important as physical size and shape.

I'm using the Crossland 659 no problems in first 100 miles or so..........

here is the rest of the options I know about:

Crossland 659 / Coopers 107X / FRAM PH2874 (really short one)
Crossland 573 (slightly longer one)
coopers Z25 (longer)
Halfords 221/Champion C115 (same as above?)
Halfords 265/Champion C148 (very long - recommended part)

just make sure you get one with a bypass valve in the filter (you can normally see the spring in the bottom of the filter if you look)

Dunnell and Scholar both use the Crossland 659 sized filter on their engines.
