More DVLA idiocy

quote:
An innocent motorist was arrested, fingerprinted and held in a police cell for three hours
because his MOT certificate was the "wrong" shade of green.

Agree it should be looked into if suspicious but surely a call to the issuing tester would verify its real, or even checking with VOSA its all online. Just another example of how crap the computer systems are which are used to govern us are (I am a computer consultant).

He should also be compensated for his 3 hour incarceration, he is self employed so was deprived of work / income.

"In a situation where there is a potentially fraudulent document presented, it is our procedure to contact the police."

The cashier was only doing her job. I blame the Police department............

Completely wrong - it was the Police who were only doing their job. In this instance they appear to have acted very quickly (believe me, 3 hours detention is extremely fast for any police investigation).

I would say the fault lies with DVLA - they need to train their staff to a better standard and to change their procedures - as pointed out above, they could easily have checked the information in this situation.
