Have you seen the build tables....or work tables that you see kit cars on or single seaters on? They are i suppose stands...1 front and 1 rear?

How the hell do you get them on/off them????? Man power or is there an easier option?

Ratchet straps if you have suitable upper support.

A bare chassis will only weigh circa 30 kgs iirc so lifting it isn't a problem. It's once you start adding suspension things get heavy, but you can put it on axle stands then and use a jack to get it onto floor once running gear added.

I made two horses out of 2x2 and 4x2 about 2 1/2 tall.

Built all the suspension up and got a couple mates round to lift, kick them out the way and down.. If your on your own an engine crane would do it.

Having the chassis up made it easy to see/install things especially the diff.. it means your not bending down trying to crane your neck to see underneath things..

Alternatively do what I did and make a "2axis" electric crane - hoist moves along the piece it hangs from and it has rollers which run on angle iron welded to top of cross pieces :

I just tied rope to three or four points and used an engine crane to lift the lot, moved the build stand out and lowered the lot onto its wheels - simples :-)
My donor car was an MX5 and the reverse procedure lifted the body off the engine and running gear!

I have a pair of 610mm trestles that I still use whenever I do a job on the car.

My trolly jack lifts the car one end at a time, no problem.



A gadget to save bending down.

Built mine up fully on the build stand.
Jacked the front up, supported on axle stands, same at the back, removed build stand.
Lowered to floor in two stages by lowering the axle stands.

Description

I used 4 axle stands for my MK Indy build. Lowered the front of the car to get the engine and gearbox in. Apart from that they worked fine and I already had them so £0 cost as well.

Used a trolley jack to get the car on/off the stands.
