2003 Injected R1 bhp

Chaps & Chapettes

Hoping to find out the output from a 2003 injected R1 engine with power commander fitted. I believe it's 140 bhp as standard - much that can be done to improve on this figure without going overboard?

Many thanks

Mark

Depends whether you're talking power at the engine or wheels?

I thought it was at least 150bhp at the engine as standard.

The best figure I've heard for a standard engine with powercommander was something like 168bhp at the engine.

But hey all rollers read differently.

It should be more than 140bhp at the engine any way you cut it.

As for power increases - slap on a turbo or supercharger Anything else is only going to give a single figure increase and if it did do more than that it would probably cost more than forced induction...

its more like how much do you wish to spend on it ,
i think its 146bhp as std.
a k&n at around £36 makes it around 150bhp.
then a turbo 180-200bhp

Guess a couple of follow up questions (talking at the crank, probably easier that way)

Do power commanders just offer the opportunity to correct/enhance fuelling rather than noticibly improving peak power/torque?

Similarly, exhaust and induction I'm guessing are pretty well set up on a standard bike - small gains only to be made there?

I'm thinking a turbo longer term if I'm lucky enough to get the car I'm looking at, but that's a cross that bridge when I come to it scenario methinks

Don't forget that bike bhp includes ram air effect which you won't get on the car, I think there is a lot of pub style talk of bhp out of engines.

A properly set up power comander will remove the dip in performance that bike designers build in at about 5k rpm to bet noise tests, and sets the bike up for max power rathe than gettig it through strict emissions tests.

after putting on my powercommander I noticed a pretty big improvement in power, ive also got new filters that make a fair old difference.
im sure i heard it was about 150-160hp std?

was anything modified or changed on yours hobzy?

hobzy - 27/9/09 at 07:32 PM

Not that I know of. Bought it in that state of tune, and have the print out from holeshot.

markyb - 27/9/09 at 08:19 PM

Mine was 128 at holeshot

the bikes only make 135 at the wheel. 140 with a full system.
