What is the best most powerfull bike engine under 1150cc suitable for a BEC??
tcc21racing - 24/5/11 at 11:38 AM

Hi what is currently the best/most powerfull under 1150cc bike engine suitable for a BEC currently on the market?

Is it the current 2010-11 ZX10 with 205bhp claimed?

Looking at building somthing special for compertition use so would need a special engine no super chargers or turbos unless it comes under 1150cc with the standard +40% engine size ruling for forced induction motorsport classes ect.

Cheers,

Talking to some of the BEC wizards, they think its the new BMW engine with 200hp at the wheels...

RGB boys seem to be liking the 1000RR 2008+

Red line at 14k and 170 WH proven

According to 'real world' rolling road tests reported by motorcycle news, the BMW S1000RR engine gave more power than the Kawasaki (on the same rollers)... That said, there wasn't much in it IIRC.

Early 'new-model' ZX10's also had factory recall due to valve bounce issues I believe.

For my money, I'd go for the BMW. There are enough of them around now that they're being crashed quite frequently, whereas you'd be lucky to get hold of the latest Kawa.

HTH,

Pete

if you can afford i hear the BMW is the best bet. if your poor like me then a ZZR1100 engine is pretty fast and cheap.

good luck with the build :O)

Bear in mind that there'snot a lot (if any) experiance of putting the BMW engine in a car... yet.

It's probably worth a phone call to Andy Bates for his input.

The Beemer engine costs a fortune though... not seen one for under £3k.

So you want an engine under 1150cc so you can turbo or supercharge it?

His post seems to say that he doesnt want a forced induction engine unless it comes in under 1150cc including the x1.4 capacity increase, ie less than 821cc.

Forgot to say, you'll probably want to run MOTEC engine management (or similar) for the BMW S1000RR. - The bike has such advanced electronics, it might be difficult to get set up and working in a car application otherwise...

Happy be be proven wrong by someone willing to try it though!
