Hi, ive noticed recently on my mnr with a 03 R1 engine that following a slow tight bend in first then engaging 2nd and utting the power down that im
getting a sort of driveline shunt or blip of no power. it lasts a millisecond and is only ever in 2nd so has anyone got an ideas whats causing
this?
thanks
Adam
Is it just a jolt then OK, maybe with a clunk as well?
Seen that twice on '03 R1's and both times it was gearbox starting to fail... Sorry
Been there done that. Gears will become more difficult to engage and eventually you will have to rebuild the box. I had an old engine/box that had
thrown a rod so I combined the best of two gear sets after some advice from my friendly bike guru. Yamaha boxes seem to have more backlash in the dog
engagement than for example Kawasakis.
Sorry for pessimism.
R1 dogs are consumable items, like the rods, built from chocolate. I use a power shifter, in anger, which really destroys them. Other things that
create high-torque (OK it's an R1, sorry about the word 'high' slop and other issues is finger wear on the clutch basket, minimum 30%
cocoa solids.
All is cheap, easy to get to and easy to fix.
Its very much a jolt like a bad missfire but always in 2nd and feels like the same point in the rev range
Is it something to do sooner rather than later? How can i check for sure? something i can do myself as furthest ive been inside the engine was sump
off for the sump baffle and barnett clutch spring fitment.
Cheers
Adam
