R1 - Digital dash
Paul G - 1/8/05 at 01:42 PM

Hi All

Picked up my 2000 R1 engine from MK on Saturday - does anyone know if the aftermarket digital dashes will work with this? (I heard that with some engines the ecu doesnt like it if the original clocks are not installed)

I was specifically thinking about the dash for sale here:

There are quite a few guys out there who are running aftermarket dashes on their R1s. Mostly Digidashs or similar. Only downside IMHO is the lack of analogue tacho. Also note that the 2000/01 dash controls the fan relay. But a thermo fan swich / sensor should not be too much of a problem.

Cheers

Jim

As usual some people talk nutsack about things they know little about.....

The R1 is no different than any other bike engine with respect to using non-yamaha instrumentation.

The ECU has no specific dependency on the R1 clocks.

I've sucessfully used ETB's digidash and will be using Digidash2 on my next project!

Go choose what you fancy...

Hey Jim - hows the rebuild going?

Whotcha Paul !

Slow going at the moment mate.

The injection upgrade has presented a few challenges I wasn’t expecting.

The deeper sump of the inj motor has necessitated raising the engine 2cms which in turn has meant that the exhaust manifold now requires modding for chassis clearance.

It has been a bit manic at work and garage time limited. Got to pull my finger out as I am away on hols for a couple of weeks and meant to be trackdaying at Zandvoort at the end of September.

You must be nearly there with the race car now? Were you at Lydden at the weekend (I was there Sunday which may motivate me to get back in the garage).

Cheers

Jim

A friend and I are converting our Strikers to R1 at the moment. We bought a pair of AIM ST1 dashes off ebay a couple of weeks ago. They arrived today and look great. Just got to work out how they work!

Jim. These have a large analogue tacho on the left with the digital displays and warning lights on the right.

Ben.

Thanks for all the replies fellas - think I'll give the banditmania dash a try then, I quite like the look of a digital tacho anyway

Hi Jim,

Like you, time has been limited so I'm only 50% there. about to wire up the engine and hopefully fire her up in a couple of weeks. That should be incentive enough to get cracking!

Missed Lydden, I heard there were a few racers not behaving themselves in Class C. Good job I'm in Class B for next year....

Will hopefully get the odd trackday in by October/November if I pull my finger out...

Cheers

Paul
