Rear view Mirror permanent?
FASTdan - 11/3/09 at 12:55 PM

If I have a rear view mirror fitted (IIRC you dont specifically need one if the other 2 mirrors do the job?) does it need to be bolted down?

I'm sure I read someone saying they'd failed on this - at the moment I have a suction cup one on the fly screen. Could I get away with glueing this on - as thats effectively the same as a manufacturers one (they're bonded on right?).

Dont want to have to make a pillar for it etc if I can help it.....

I used a suction cup one for my SVA... The bloody thing kept falling off when the tester wasnt looking

Passed fine on it!!!

The suction mirror I have is tacky and cheap... think I will get a proper mirror from a scrapy and some sticky pads and stick it on properly at some point!

Im suprised you need one anyway. Most vans with fitted bulkheads dont have one.

You need one unless it provides no useful view (e.g. a van), even if vision area is covered by wing mirrors. Only the nearside wing mirror is optional.

Some people have failed with suction cup mirrors so I'd glue it on, or at least take glue with you!

I'd take some glue and ask the tester where on the screen he'd be happy for it to be glued onto.
Then he can't really complain re the position or the lack of permanence!!
I passed with a bolt on jobby even though it was of absolutely no use whatsoever in the FOV test!!

you could hardly see owt out of mine just the roll bar! he based it on both wing mirrors instead and just passed that part of the sva! failed on quite a few others though!
