what plate will i get?

ive been reading the dvla docs on registring kitcars, and am confused to wheather i will get the reg of my donor car, or a Q plate.

i will be using the following off the donor:

Diff/prop/drive shafts
brakes
hubs
steering

so anyone any experiance on what reg i will get?

Depends what your building and how you fill the forms in.

What about engine/gearbox?

Q plate with that list - It is never the donor reg, unless the chassis is kept.

its an MK Indy R im building.

and will be using an R1 engine.

Ok, no reason why you won't get age related, as I said as long as you fill the forms in correctly.....

Anyone manged a new plate usign a bike engine/box combo?

I had exactly your list, with a ZZR1200 engine, and got an age related plate.

I.e. not a new plate, the age of the donor car

use new parts and get new plate.

use donor parts get either the donor age plate or get Q

Not strictly true, it depends on the kit chassis you use.

A slight thread hijack...

I have my donor Sierra, with a blown engine.
I'm thinking of fitting my 2.8 BMW engine and box in it, until I get round to the build early next year.
Am I right in thinking that once I've done the engine swap, and it's on the v5c, when I come to do the build, I've technically used all the running gear from the donor. Seeing as I will have driven the Sierra about and MOT'd it with that engine in.
So it shouldn't be a issue with retaing the donor's reg, or will it?

Yes, that,s exactly what I did with my zetec. BUT there's no way of keeping the donor reg, they takes your old V5 and issue a number on the same year prefix.

If you want to keep the donor reg you'll need an moted donor and will need to transfer the number onto retention.

I'm not bothered about keeping the donors reg, I just want to keep it off a Q if possible. Because my dad has a private plate on retention for my son(he bought it when he was born in 2002) & we thought we'd put on this car if it's not on a Q plate.

if you get all new parts and use second hand diff and axles and a recon engine. with new chassis then you can get a new plate.

thats the rules. although you need receipts for all your parts.

i had the issue of getting alot of my parts recon from gainsborough area. shame really.

i think i had some receipts on my pc for the recons. ill have to check paint for them ;O)

Not true. To get a new plate you need all new parts with 1 major part/assembly reconditoined to 'as new' condition with paperwork to prove it.

Ok guys, I'm getting a bit confused with the Q-plate/ age related plate you have in England.

Suppose:
I'm building a MK Indy R-ZX12R with '90 sierra donor parts (steering, wheel hubs, diff and drive shafts). I have the paperwork of the (Belgian) donor car.

If I finish building the car in let's say 2011 and I bring it back to MK for IVA'ing. Will it be possible to register the car as a 1990 MK Indy R (age related) and does this also mean the car was theoretically put on the road for the first time in 1990 ? Reason I'm asking is I need the car to be old enough. If I register it as a 2011 MK Indy and want to import it into Belgium, I will have a lot of problems with emission (Euro4 - Euro5 and all that cr#p)

OK, so if I use my original Lotus 7 S4 chassis (lets say 1972), Mk1 engine, box and back axle, I'll get a '72 plate. Which is good (I don't want a new plate)

Is it possible that I could qualify for tax exempt if I could prove that the parts were all old enough - i.e.pre '72?

What will the car be classed as on the log book for the age related plate - Ford, Lotus, 'remanufactured' etc????

Or is this the bit that is all about how you fill in the forms.

Do the mechanical components all ahve to come from one donor, or can you assembelt them from various sources, as long as they are of the thype available at the time you claim (i.e mix MK1 and Mk2 escort bits where they are interchangable)?

After all of this, you still have to do the IVA, but is it judged against the set standard, or the standard of the period to which the plate issued relates- for example toggle switches v's rockers etc

I have no practical experience, but have read the DVLA guidance on assignment of a Registration Number.

My question is though, can I dispose of the donor body shell (having taken lots of pictures) but retain the V5C and SORN status? If not, how and/or what do I need to do to retain an age related Reg No.

I'd ask the DVLA, but I get the impression no reply is binding, so its best to actually know in advance.
