Steering Wheel
ttalps2000 - 20/6/17 at 09:04 PM

I have just fitted a mini steering wheel to the car to get ready for IVA in 2 weeks time. I can just about get my legs under the wheel and operate the pedals, however it is much bigger than the 11" wheel i have and it now obscures the warning lights etc on the dash, hence its not going to pass, let alone drive it around the test station!

So, does anyone know if a IVA pad you can get for a 11" flat bottom steering wheel? Or have one i can borrow?

This is what i have: https://www.rallydesign.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=82_1887_1899&products_id=15407

Any other suggestions to overcome the issue?

Also, do i need a steering lock for the test? The original wheel will give me this, but the after market one will not.

Thanks

Matt

you don't have to have a steering lock, but you do need some form of immobilizer

nope, key switch on the dash (or remote fob) should be good though

see iva section 13a

A manually operated battery master switch or a removable steering wheel would not be considered to be an anti theft device.

Can you make a pad up?....it has to look convincing (i.e. not just some tapped on pipe lagging. But if you purchase some rubberised foam and spend time carving out something that will fit, it should pass.

have a look for an mx5 wheel pad. I've got one and they're a proper thing to go over the metal spokes

could you measure the width of it for me please? Is yours fitted to a MX5 wheel?
