Tyres - R888R or AR-1
Matt21 - 13/2/17 at 09:20 PM

Now that the new Nankang AR-1 has been released in 13", I'm having a spot of bother deciding what to buy.

I have previously used the older R888 and really liked them, however I have not tried the new ones.

Prices from demon tweaks are £399 for R888R or £385 for the AR-1
Reckon it's worth a pop with the Nankang? or just stick with toyo and hope they're as good as the old ones?

Does anywhere else sell the AR-1 yet? I can't seem to find them.

The new R888R is better than the old version. Doesn't overheat when pushed hard, were the old ones would and is a lot better in the wet (even torrential rain and standing water). Only downside is they take slightly longer to get up to temp on track but it's not noticeable on the road.

Also tempted by the AR-1, it looks great, although 15" sizes are slightly limited.

Not experienced the AR-1 but I have R888R's fitted to my MK Indyblade and I agree with adithorp that the R888R is superb and I believe it would take a lot to beat them on track.

Had ar1s for 8 months or so. Rate them.

However, if you can afford 888s I'd get them instead.

The 888R is only £15 more

Anyone got any feedback on either of these?
like wear rate, progressivity, feedback etc

Check the cost of the Avon ZZRs, been using them recently and very impressed.

Can't seem to find the ZZR anywhere, certainly not in my sizes (185/60/13 and 205/60/13)

Only come in a couple of 13 sizes.
