leaking nipples :-)

I have a problem :-)

I am trying to use a grease gun to inject std gear oil into the trunions on my Triumph front suspension... and the oil just leaks out of the the joint between the nipple and the gun fitting rather than going in to the trunion. I am using stand diff oil (80 grade I think) and not the hypo oil.
I have not used a grease gun before but have loaded it OK and the gun fitting locks on to the nipple OK. I tried pulling on the the gun to create some kind of seal and also lifting the weight off the suspension to see if this helps with no luck.
Looking how dry the suspension is I expect it has not been lubricated for a while.. could the nipple ball bearing be stuck?
Any suggestions ?
Alex

good that you know they should be oiled (not greased)

the usual problem for grease guns with oil is they leak everywhere

there are some oil guns see
https://shop.tssc.org.uk/product/side-lever-oil-gun

and yes the nipple could be seized, they are easy enough to replace, but also easy to remove and bench test.

Could be, try pressing the ball bearing in a few times to free it off.

the gun leaked everywhere to start with ... it was so messy that I got pissed off with it and left in for a couple weeks (from experience this is the best approach for me). Anyway had a think and sealed all the internal parks of the gun with grease (ie what is was designed for) and the it worked fine pumping oil.

I will try pressing the ball bearing a few times and to see if this works.

Quick update... Nipples are oiled!
Used some grease around the nipples to help create a good seal and this made a big difference and I could get some pressure.
I then found the someone previously had put grease in them which was shy it needed a bit more of a push to get the oil in to them.
