Seat Mounting
Rosco - 4/5/15 at 08:08 PM

I'm looking for some advice on seat mounting to meet IVA requirements.

I have JK Composite seats for the Fury. The IVA manual says they need to be fixed to the chassis but I'm not sure how to interpret this - my question is can I just bolt them to the aluminium panels or do they need to be bolted to the actual chassis rails?

Thanks

You can mount the seats direct to the floor. The manual doesn't specify chassis just structure. Note 1 implies you can attach to the floor, however as your floor is ally the spreader plates aren't required (I used some all the same)....

"1. Every seat must be securely attached to the vehicle structure, or
other obvious suitable load bearing parts of the vehicle (see notes 1,
2, and 3)."

"Note 1: If attached to a non-metallic floor pan separate from the chassis,
adequate support to spread the load of the anchorage is required, eg
spreader plates/stiffening ribs etc."

I guess that its open to interpretation as to whether a thin aluminium panel would count as a load bearing structure. Personally, I wouldn't risk just bolts and washers and would want to spread the load somehow.

Mine is a monocoque and the advice I received was although the floor is part of the chassis I should still fit load spreading plates.
