Formula Jedi Racecar - un-Finished Project
perksy - 20/1/19 at 10:11 PM

Good Mate has a Jedi for sale, Please PM if interested and I'll put you in contact
Good base to start from when finished if you fancy getting into Hillclimbing (or similar)

Details below:

Formula Jedi race car, modified for hillclimbs and campaigned briefly about 10 years ago. Has since been fitted with a Honda Blackbird engine, DTA S80 ECU and new LSD. The chassis has been sandblasted and powder coated and re skinned with carbon fibre sheet.
The project has stalled part way through the wiring so this, the exhaust and some other jobs need completing.
Car comes with slicks and wets on nice rims, boxes of spares and the original CBR600 engine plus a spare one.

Car is located in South Shropshire.

Looking for £4.5K ono.

Has it had the updated ROP fitted?

As the original hoop is now no good for any type of motorsport

perksy - 21/1/19 at 08:27 PM

I'll check and report back

It has bolt in back stays between the roll hoop and the chassis
Whether the current set up complies I'm afraid We don't know
If anybody is seriously interested I'll sort some photos out
It would be a shame to see it broken up for parts

My own single seater (Force PT) was modified to comply with current ROPS regulations simply enough by replacing the bolt in rear stays of sufficient diameter / thickness. Main hoop itself was already fine. Sounds like a potential bargain there for someone - pop the original 600 engine back in and away you go.

CosKev3 - 22/1/19 at 09:15 AM

The main hoop is not compliant on a Jedi,IIRC something to do with how they bent the tubing?

It's circa £1000 to have a new one fitted by Jedi iirc

Hi

Just in case it helps

The Motorsport ROPS (roll over protection system) regulations have changed again very recently, some have been relaxed for the smaller lighter single seaters (such as a Jedi) so I'd suggest a quick phone call to Jedi Racing Cars and either the seller or potential buyers will be easily able to find out what, if anything, is now required.

It'd still be an absolute bargain by the sound of it..

Dopdog - 23/1/19 at 10:28 PM

It’s an absolute bargain which ever way you look at it. I am surprised it has not gone

Bttt

Some interest but one or two saying the Blackbird engine is not a popular choice in a Jedi for competition use

It'd be a real shame to break this and all realistic offers for the package as it stands will be considered...

The problem is that the Blackbird engine and other mods make it ineligible for Formula Jedi/F1000 and the roll hoop is not Blue Book compliant for MSA sprints/hillclimb as it has the little extension hoop on top of the main hoop.
The only thing it could really be used in as it is would be Javelin Sprint Series Class T, might be worth putting some adverts up on their social media pages.
It might also be eligible for Monoposto but you would have to check with the organisers of the series.

I know someone that runs two Jedis in monoposto and he had to have the roll hoops changed by Jedi

Thanks for the comments

Have heard Jedi will sort the roll hoop out

Just wandering though, I've seen quite a few Westfields and a couple of Strikers competing with roll hoop 'add ons' that ensure the drivers helmet is lower the the rollbar
How do they get away with this as the add ons won't have been tested by the manufacturer or MSA ?

Might it be some scrutineers are more thorough than others?
