Exhaust for MK Indy with Pinto
coombed - 26/9/14 at 02:12 PM

Hi all,

I've bought an MK Indy (built in 2003) and it's fitted with a Pinto engine. It has the stock cast iron exhaust manifold with a two into one pipe with a cherry bomb thing on the end. It's just awful. I would like a 4 into 1 stainless setup or at worst, just a decent exhaust can I can bolt on to the existing stainless pipe.

If anyone has anything please let me know!

Thanks
Dunc

How soon do you need it? I'm ditching my pinto over Christmas.

I'm very happy with the exhaust can the 907 off this forum made for me - sounds nice but quiet for track days.

Dunc
I have a MK supplied pinto 4 into 1 stainless exhaust manifold, angled connection pipe and clamp surplus to requirements
The manifold has only been used when the engine was run on a dyno

whats your budget? and what sort of power is your pinto making?

Engine was built with reliability in mind.
Spec of my Pinto is a fully rebuilt 205 block of standard capacity blue printed with Mahle pistons that have been machined to the block face. Cometic .035" head gasket, 5.5 kg flywheel and assy balanced.
Skimmed injection head to give 10.25-1 compression, group one inlet valves and standard exhausts in bronze guides( no further porting has been carried out), Kent FR32 cam with vernier.
R1 modified carbs on Danst manifold matched to head ports.
H & H billet distributor.
The dyno recorded 168 bhp @ 5750rpm and climbing (did not exceed these revs due to minimal running).

The manifold it was purchased from MK in 2013 complete with CBS 5" silencer for £445.

I have no idea to its price but I am away until the 15th October when I will post photos

Regards Ross

Honestly, I don't have a budget per se..I do know that I just need an exhaust and I certainly can't pay £800 or so for a custom job at my local exhaust place.

Not sure on the power of the pinto either. It runs well, that's all I know!

Cheers
Dunc

If its on the bog standard cast iron exhaust manifold and what looks like a fairly standard downdraft carb in the pic then I'd have to guess its only making 105 - 110bhp at most or maybe a little more if its had some head work and a cam

Totally standard inlet, carb and cast exhaust manifold. All very boring!!!! No head work either. Bike carbs or twin 40's....that's the next question!

I have a pair of scruffy 40s, on a Pinto manifold and with a refurb kit if you're interested. I'm also in Maidstone once a week
Or, if anybody's interested, I have a twin 40s allegedly to crossflow inlet manifold

power wise there isn't much in it between 600cc bike carb's and twin 40's

generally twin 40's cost more, use more fuel and may need fiddled with to stay in tune

bike carb's need a custom manifold and a bit of work to get them all setup
but once that's done you shouldn't need to do much more than drain them when your not using the car for a while

if you plan to sick a lumpy cam in it (which will make a big difference) then you might want to think about the bigger ~1000cc bike carbs / twin 45's instead
