Aluminium finishes
J222jra - 18/5/13 at 09:37 PM

Hi guys,

I'm not sure how many on here have aluminium panels any more but I'm wondering what finishes people have achieved and how they have achieved them.

I don't really want mine polished.....a nice brushed finish would be good so it's easier to maintain.

Tips, tricks and pics would be great.

Thanks in advance

James

Fine Scotch pad and WD40 but with not much more effort you can get a good shine , the best polish I have used is California Custom's Original Purple Polish, problem is finding some in the UK

I would not be keen on using wire wool. I believe it leaves bits of wire embedded in the ali which then go rusty.

3M Scotchbrite
Brush in one direction leaves a nice finish

I've tried a oily rag finish (after one polish), gives a nice satin sheen.

I would have thought a scrathed finish would oxidise hell of a lot faster that polished. I know it did when I tried it on a test panel and that was with it being laquered within a short time. All blistered like it had the pox.
Next is to try polished and a coat of wax.

I polish mine, then give it a good wipe over with WD40, and every time I wash it I finish by wiping it over with WD when it is dry, it lasts quite a long time between polishes with a nice satiny sheen.
