HP and LP pump choices
ChrisL - 27/5/19 at 03:47 PM

I'm looking for an HP and LP pump fo my SC Zetec,
Was thinking Bosch 044 for HP but what about the LP, I've seen a facet one that's a direct fit that supposed to be good for 180HP, given that I have a swirl pot can I get away with this or should I go for something that can deliver my desired 250HP?

I think you need to get a larger one or the swirl pot is in danger of emptying at WOT.

What about a tank with built in sump/pot, or even an intank pump. A simpler/tidier/better solution.

I’ve been working on mine today. After weeks of reading, debating and pondering I’ve gone for a set up like you describe.
I will be starting at 220bhp but need enough head room for 270.
Instead of a genuine Bosch 044 I’ve gone for Sytec OTP044. It’s still rated at 380Lph and is reviewed as good quality and to be fair feels good compared to a cheap eBay pump.

I’ve made a cradle to go over the diff. It’s a 1.5L swirl pot direct to the Hp pump. Then it feeds a high pressure sytec filter.
It will be 10mm to the rail and back.
I’ve got a facet cube for the lift pump and it is piped with a filter between tank and pump all 8mm.
I may change to a red top if there is a need.

I did look at changing the tank. Internal swirl pots, bottom mounted sumps and so on. There was nothing I could find on the shelf. So that means finding some one to do the job. Supplying dimensions and other variables like pumps, filters and sensors.
Then you have to hope it fits, make up new straps and so on.

All bought, cheers for the input. My wallet is taking a pounding at the moment :-0

What did you go with ?

The red top facet and bosch 044, did look at the sytec but for the extra £50 I'd rather have the bosch...

Well you will never run out of fuel.

Lol, just won't be able to afford it!

Yep I am probably close on three figures for the An fittings alone.

I was keeping a spreadsheet but I stopped for the sake of my marriage, it's more damming than my browser history!

Hi Big_Wasa.
I am considering a Sytec branded pump for my build.
Did you went along Sytec?
If so, how has it performed?
Thanks in advance.

I’ve only had it at tick over upto yet. I’ve been making up coolant pipes today.

So far so good.

Sounding good. Since I made this post I’ve had the engine out 4 times and mashed a set of pistons due to not double checking my actual pulley sizes. So rebuilt it with bits from another engine and should be running shortly also discovered the over boost setting for my ecu :-)

Your plenum looks good did you make it?

big_wasa - 23/5/20 at 10:19 PM

Modified steel Gbs Zetec plenum. The plan for winter is an alloy one.

It’s still a work in progress. Lots of bits just hanging loose as I couldn’t wait any longer.

Hope you strengthened it as I hear they are not that strong on boost, a mate on another forum is looking at plenum options to avoid having an over engine inlet and said that he'd had one split...
