Hi Chaps

I got an old Racetech electric water temp guage with some parts and decided to use it on a project. I bought what I think is the appropriate sender from racetech but having tried to test with a cup of hot water, a 12v battery and some wire, I can't get the guage to register anything?

I have a few questions;

Will my method of testing work?

Is my test correct? Positive, negative to corresponding battery terminals, last connection to sender?

What usually is at fault, senders or guages when they go wrong?

casing of sender needs to go to battery negative as well (it picks up a ground/ negative from the engine block) ATB Mart

Yup. That'll be it. You need to earth the casing of the sensor. Otherwise you'll get no signal

Same thing happened to me when I forgot to run an earth cable from my engine block to the thermostat (which contained the sensor).... Electrically isolated thermostat therefore no signal... Crappy little bit of bell wire later= signal
