denso alternator wiring

i've got this type of alternator,
photo stolen off the internet

anyone got a wiring diagram for it? and what type of connector does it use? its a crap photo, but its got 3 connections in there.

look here.type 4 some people say only use 2 of the three wires i had to use all three on mine. i used a plug from a gsxr injector loom with a small mod. hope this helps

I have just wired mine up. B post connects to the battery +ve, S to a permanent live and IG to a switched live. L to your dash light if you have one.

Seems to be working for me and not overcharging.

so as mine is on a track car,
where the battery will be disconnected via a FIA master switch when the engine is not running...

I can just link B IG and S with one cable that goes back to the battery,
Is that right?

Might be worth reading up on that. My (limited) understanding is that S is the battery sense to allow the alternator to regulate charging and as mine is a permanent live then yes I suppose it could link in with the B post but I have a heavier duty wire from the post as I thought this wire has to be able to handle the max output from the alternator.

There must be a reason why there is an ignition live rather than just being powered by a permanent live all the time? Found this on a random alternator page

"This terminal is fed by the switched 12V source (from the ignition switch and through the ignition warning light indicator or "idiot light". It is used to energize or excite the field windings inside the alternator. The alternator cannot start charging until there is voltage on the field windings and a magnetic force is created"

I stand and expect to be corrected!
