Am trying to use an alternator from an MX5 mk2, it seems like it is ecu controlled. Does anyone know of any ready made (cheapish) solutions to use this alternator?

I had this issue recently. I am building a 1.6 Mk2 engined Haynes with original loom and ECU. The alternator didn't charge and after a lot of research I decided to swap it for a Mk 1 alternator and rewire the loom. Whilst wiring the loom I found a break in one of the wires to the ecu and after repair it worked so I didn't go any further. Had I continued with the original I was going to use the DIYPNP circuit, I hadn't heard of the L9911, if I had it would certainly have been the winner.
Let us know how you get on, I am sure there are a lot of builders in the same position as you.

The MK1 MX5 alternator using the same mouting IIRC and it is not ECU controller.

Mine charges fine with just three wires, 1 energiser wire, 2 two the battery (one charge wire and one sensing wire).

I can't help with the MK2 alternator, I have the MK1 alternator for this reason (simplicity). However if/when this needs replacing I've been informed that a Suzuki Swift alternator is a better alternative, so that might be worth looking into?

Thanks guys, I'm going to give a go at the regulator solution. Failing that I'll be using a regular alternator.

I needed to take a pickup from one of the stators of the alternator to pass it to the IC.
