Faulty oil pressure switch?
James24785 - 18/6/18 at 06:37 PM

Trying to get to the bottom of my lack of oil warning light. I know the light works as I've tested it.
Oil pressure switch is showing a short to ground on the outer nut itself, but the terminal shows open circuit both with the engine off and the engine running.

I assume with the engine off I should be seeing a short to ground?

Are all oil pressure switches normally closed?

Yes. No pressure = ground which puts the light on.

Thought so, cheers!

Will any eurocarparts special be ok? There's a separate sender for my oil gauge, this is literally just for the warning light (and my push button start)

Yes. The thread is important. Just get one for the engine or take the old one with you.

there are some which ground as the pressure rises, but they are unusual.

ps don't use ptfe tape as you install it, (yea you say the body at the moment is grounded, but just a note for others ;-)

Just to close this off
Bought a new pressure switch from ECP for 5 quid. Fitted in 2 mins and I now have a working oil pressure light...and illuminated push button start
