Wiring LED panel lamps

I've just bought a green 12v panel LED lamp from RS and want to wire this in as a dash light to say when the indicators are on.

As I only want to use one LED for both indicators, I guess I need to put a couple of diodes in the circuit to stop both sides lighting up when I switch the indictaors on.

Can anyone give me a clue as to a suitable diode spec? Asked in Maplin but they're useless - after I'd waited 15 mins for anyone to be free!

Hi, what flasher relay are you using? Some have a connector for you to run a tell-tale from.

1 Amp, 50 PIV would be more than adequate. Check Maplin catalogue for suitable device.

If you need them IN4001S should be more than adequate.
QL73Q is the maplin number

just 2x 1N4001 would be enough.

cheaper you cant go, infact you could go to a radio repair shop and ask them for any kind of diode.

you will need 2 of them to feed the led from both positives from the blinks.

when alarm is on, both diodes will make it burn slightly longer but you won't be able to see that

only problem with rs is that you need to buy in larger quantity - for diode I would guess that wold be 5 or 10.

this is how you would wire them with diodes shown.

lamp abobe is +ve side, the -ve side, not shown, goes to 0 V.

Now this may not work - I have done what you did in a Land Rover - the stlk somehow swtiches polarity so I had to use 4 diodes to form a rectifier - it blow my mind thinking how the salk does this but it works so I can't be bothereed trying to figure out why.

This cant be true! you don't need for because you don't have alternating voltage!

think about this:
1) the diode itself is also an diode (we use the diodes only that if you select LEFT, the right side isn't linked to the other side.
2)alternating current using one diode is already rectified.
3) the led itself should be connected to negative with its appropiate pin. If you reverse it your led will/could blink when the lights are of and thats what could happen if you place 4 diodes! (2 are there useless anyway!)
