New Lotus 7
off-road-ham - 29/7/10 at 04:19 PM

As per cover of the new AutoExpress mag
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpressnews/255046/this_weeks_mag.html

There is to be a new Lotus Seven, looks close to a catering van to me.
Does this mean caterham will sue them over the use of the "7" name as they have done with others.

I wonder when Catherham actually bought the rights off Lotus? If it was say dead on say 10 or 20 years ago perhaps then only have the brand name for a certain amount of years?

stevebubs - 29/7/10 at 04:33 PM

It's rumoured to be this car...

Not sure of the year, but I recently watched a BBC4 program about Caterham and I think it was between 1975 and 1978, so it's over 30 years ago.

The Caterham people didn't mention an expiration date on the brand ownership.

Seems a blow on Caterham that might put them out of business, since they rely only on the Seven... Westfield has other models, but they don't...

Unless it really is the Aspid stevebubs posted about. With a 100kGBP price tag, noone will buy it and Caterham will be safe

Yuck!! I hope not!

PSpirine - 29/7/10 at 07:40 PM

That ass-pid looks horrid!

scootz - 29/7/10 at 07:40 PM

I like it... A LOT!

caber - 29/7/10 at 08:00 PM

apart from the dreadful styling how long is all that high tech glass cockpit stuff going to stay working? It will get wet if you open the car up and it is all on the steering wheel. That means a nasty twisty cable connecting it all to the car! Lotus can't be that stupid as to buy a car in to sell they are the people who sell car technology and branding!

I'll keep my locost much more in the spirit of a real 7!

I've seen a Lotus recently with "Eleven" emblazoned on the side. It was pretty new too

norfolkluego - 29/7/10 at 08:41 PM

Did it look like the original eleven?

iank - 29/7/10 at 08:54 PM

Lotus 2-Eleven?

Confused but excited. - 29/7/10 at 09:31 PM

That Aspid looks like a Donk's ugly sister.
They must have a designer that is good at tracing.

bi22le - 29/7/10 at 09:42 PM

Cant knock the engine choice though.

Thats what I would like to go for ultimatly.

Always nice to see a different slant on the se7en look. Even if it is square and not that nice.

norfolkluego - 29/7/10 at 10:19 PM

Nah not one of them, a propper Lotus, a Chapman designed one

Isn't the new Esprit out this year

I think that is almost exactly the chap!

However:
"Intended as a track day car, it costs £39,995 though for an additional £1,100 Lotus will make the car fully road legal."

£41k? When are the kits coming out?
