I found this item after reading about this in the Sunday Times.

Do we believe this? there seem to be a number of extravagant claims such as he cut the chassis in half with a hacksaw! If he had the skills and tools to do this, could he not have simply repaired the damage?

Its been doing the rounds on Facebook but the story changes each time. IMHO, it is possible to dismantle a 2CV using nothing but powdwered milk, but to build that bike? Nah.

It seems a remarkably complicated and time consuming solution to his alleged problem. If he had sufficient tools to build that, surely he could have got the car rolling again in a much shorter time, even if only on three wheels.

Pish utter pish I personally have lived in Africa and as for insurance and extra passengers thats tosh.
When we were up working hours from anywhere in the bush on the northern Natal coast /Moz border you hoped you had a local to go with you as sat navs didn't exist and local maps scarce. If you had a local you knew where to go. Out in the bush no one cares about insurance and most don't even have a driving licence.... 3rd world rules apply Land of the AK47 thats the only thing that counts.

I was taught how to weld with two car batteries by a bush mac years back but they still required a working truck to recharge them to finnish the repair.
It would have been easier to fix the 2cv and even if the swing was trashed it would be reparable if it still had the ends attached by welding scrap into the middle......

It's a friction drive into the tyre from one of the inboard brake drums.

I voted hero (after reading the second article). What it definately is is a motorbike made from a hacked bashed and bent 2CV. Could have been done as described. Whether all the trimmings of the story are true - it was necessary to escape from being stranded, etc etc, or whether it was just built in a village for a laugh, who knows. Technically could have been as described though.
