Ferrari want to establish whether there is enough evidence to lodge a protest that,
if successful, could overturn the result of the world championship.

Ferrari are "evaluating footage" that appears to show Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel making an illegal overtaking move in Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix.

he has passed a yellow and the next flag/light is green...
by the word of the law I believe he has passed under a yellow..

same if you are in 30 zone and then you see a national speed limit sign,
you have to do 30 till past the sign....

Question seems to be does the marshall between the two screen points wave a green flag or not. AND IF he does does that overide the signs and the dashboard yellow flag light.
We will wait and see if FIA kicks in

It would also appear that even if Ferrari do not lodge an appeal then the Fia in itself should still be ( under its own rules) investigating the incident.

is it really the way Alonso would like to win the world championship?

omega 24 v6 - 28/11/12 at 11:32 PM

YES and ferrari as well. Lotta money at stake as well.

MRLuke - 28/11/12 at 11:35 PM

History would remember Alonso as a triple world champion.

I think it is fairly clear, the fact that the dashboard light goes off at the green light suggests it is where the zone ends rather than at the marshal station previous.

The other question is, if so many people with lots of different camera angles and pause, zoom etc cant tell whether the flag was green, then how could the driver?

Judging by the whinging Spaniards history........more than likely yes.

Historically;

" FIA" has been known as Ferrarri International Assisance !

Tossers !

Just my opinion of course . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . !

Jean Todt one time head of Ferrari is now Head of the Fia ( or at least well up the ladder ).
Nuff said?

I'm no Fingers fan, and was hoping for an Alonso (championship) victory on Sunday - but this really is clutching at straws! If the marshall waving the flag at the station between the last yellow light and green light was waving a green, then that's clean in my book. The FAI and circuits may wish to look at their procedures, and where they puts lights, flags and in-car indicator points for consistency, but if a circuit official has indicated it's green, then it's reasonable for the driver to assume racing's on from that point.

A marshal waving a green flag takes precedence over the circuit and dash lights.
There's some discussion of this incident over on James Allen's blog. Looks to me like Vettel passed a green flag on the left prior to his overtake.

cliftyhanger - 29/11/12 at 07:33 AM

If a marshal says green, it is green.
Whether or not lights or gizmos were behaving. Any issues is down to the organisers to sort out without penalising any driver because of their cockup.

johnemms - 29/11/12 at 08:27 AM

I heard it might have been a yellow/black oil/slippy warning light..

loggyboy - 29/11/12 at 08:28 AM

The yellow light has no bearing whatsoever. Its only IF the marshall was waving a green flag that will count.

Funny how it's the public and press coming forward with all the speculation, nothing is being said by the teams.
It's not going to happen!

matt_gsxr - 29/11/12 at 09:35 AM

Just another reason why I am not going to get a Ferrari.

I was surprised at the time that they hadn't dropped Webber back a place or 3 as you can't win by too much and its all within the rules now. I bet Ron Dennis would have.

DanG - 29/11/12 at 09:53 AM

If Ferrari want to sign up Vettel in the very near future then could this have an impact on the Ferrari decision to push the overtaking under yellow issue be that far??

If Ferrari were to push this issue and get the ruling which strips Vettel of his title then I wouldn't expect Vettel to join them in the future.

RK - 29/11/12 at 12:35 PM

It's a moot point. The Finger won more races. He should be champion, as much as I hate saying that, after Alonso drove as well as anybody possibly could, in the Ferrari he had all year. I think he knows he was lucky to get as far as he did (and obviously unlucky sometimes too: ie. Grosjean, one of the kids who thinks he's in a video game).

In your face Alonso - try and win it on the track not on technicalities.
