What cars have you had?
Matt21 - 9/12/13 at 05:29 PM

Here is a look at some of my previous motors, what have you guys had?

It all started off with a 1997 ford escort 1.4 encore.... in purple!
unfortunatley I cant find a photo

after building up my first years no claims I moved onto my 'first real car', something I was proud of and enjoyed working on and 'modifying' and its what really got me into cars and working on them.
Peugeot 306 hdi

After a while I decided I needed more power, I believe I was one of the first few to add an intercooler to a hdi, and what impressive results! it was running around 160bhp, not bad from 90 standard

Then this happed... A Merc pulled out in front of me

I then broke the car for parts and chopped it up to scrap, I needed a van for this so my next car was an astra van 1.7dti
which was a great laugh for something so shit! it was mainly used to thrown my surfboard in to blast down to the beach.

As you can tell i wasant earning much money back then!

after I got bored of the van and could afford a bit more for insurance, it was back to peugeot for another 306!
this time a gti-6
it had its problems, but has been one of the most fun cars I have owned, especially for not much over £1000! handled like a gokart, spat flames and felt like a toy! what more do you want?!

Next... a big step up to a mk Seat Leon FR tdi170
lovely car! and alot of work done to it by the time I had finished!
was around 230-240bhp

Milltek DPF delete
Custon AAS cat back exhaust
r32 345mm brakes
KW coilovers
Whiteline antilift kit
HEL brainded lines
BFT Remap
much more!

Then the head gasket went, causing a cylinder to fill with water and crack a piston in half
I replaced the engine and then felt I it was time to sell up as I was just going too far with it!

While I was fixing the Leon i bought a suzuki wagon R for £250 as a run about to get me to work!
HILARIOUS car!

then when it was no longer needed

I then PX'd the leon for a mk4 golf gt tdi Anniversary

wasnt keen on this so it didnt last long

I also had a vitara offroader at the same time

Next was my current car, e46 330ci
3sdm alloys
KW coilovers
M3 front roll bar
clubsport splitters moulded in
DEcat and mid silencer removed
Powertec induction kit
BFT remap
probably other stuff!

excuse the wonky exhaust

I also bought a daewoo matiz for £200 just for a laugh and to detroy

At the present time I also have my first kit car, MK indy fireblade

And a nissan terrano sport

Hope I've not bored you all too much

Whats next.... well the bmw and terrano are getting sold soon, and I fancy a shark eye scooby sti or some form of a4 avant, hopefully s4 or rs4

So, whats you're car history like?

morcus - 9/12/13 at 05:32 PM

In 5 years I've had, 205, a fiat panda, an mx5 and a vectra in that order. Looking like its time for number 5.

nick205 - 9/12/13 at 05:44 PM

Mk1 Fiesta 1.1 Supersport - great car, but the floor fell out

Mk3 Escort 1.1L - a truly awful car

Mk1 Golf 1.6 GX - fantastic little car that rattled on for years through the family

205 GTI 1.6 - Oh how I loved that car

106 1.5D - mega cheap to run and actually not bad

205 GTI 1.6 - had to go back for another go

306 HDI - another cracking little car, only sold when the family outgrew it

Leon Cupra TDI - Cracking car that was shown zero respect from new to 100k miles in 3 years, never batted en eyelid

MK Indy 2.0 pinto - loved building it, driving it and tinkering, but family commitments took over

3x Sierra's - stripped and broken over the years for the Indy and parts selling

Passat B6 Estate - did all that was asked of it apart from any excitement

Volvo V50 eDrive - mega economical, but (as I've mentioned before) a truly truly disappointing car on so many levels

Passat B6 Estate - (current) again, it just does what I need of it

Seat Alhambra - (current) hauls family and associated stuff, doubles as a van and I will have another when it dies

205 GTI 1.9 - (current) had to go back for another go

205 GTI 1.6 - (current) race prepped body shell awaiting a rebuild

Right, here goes-

'72 Mini 850- evolved upto a whopping 1000cc with Cooper S head.

80's Mazda 323 1.3 (possibly the low point).

'81 Mk1 Scirocco GLi 1.6, cool

'87 Renault 5 GT Turbo Phase1 (Pearl white )

80's Fiat 131 2000TC Supermirafiori (another low point contender)

'87 Nissan Silvia Turbo 'Superchipped' to 175bhp

'83 Mk1 Golf GTi 1.8 'Campaign', raced in 'Slick 50 Road Saloon Championship'

2 x Mk2 Scirocco GTis, one raced in 'Slick 50' (replaced written off Golf above ) and one road car.

'89 Renault 5 GT Turbo, cut n shut heap of shite!!

'86 Audi Coupe Quattro, in red 'Fire up the....'

'88 Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6, repaired write off.

Then I got a string of company cars so the cars became purely toys. And rode bikes for several year-

'98 Yamaha Thundercat
'00 Aprilia SL1000 Falco
'96 Yamaha XTZ750 Super Tenere
'99 Honda XL1000V Varadero

'77 Lancia Montecarlo, still got it and probably always will TBH (Been to 'Ring, Le Mans, Alps, Pyrenees etc)

'90 Mazda RX7 Turbo II, boost wound up and finished 4th in PPC £999 challenge doing a 14.0s @ 105mph 1/4 mile. Then drove to the 'Ring and blitzed a lap of that too

[IMG]http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww236/enicpic/RX7/IMAGE_021.jpg[/IM G]

'89 BMW 535iS, finished 5th in PPC £999 challenge with a 100bhp shot of NOS Then again drove to 'Ring with 4 lads all the camping gear and a roof box and still managed a very respectable lap once unloaded.

[IMG]http://i723.photobucket.com/albums/ww236/enicpic/BMW/079_59321.jpg[/IM G]

'90 MR2, bought cheap with knocking lump. Fitted Rev3 lump and coilovers and finished 2nd in PPC £999 challenge. Fitted 3.0 V6 and finally WON the PPC £999!!!
Then guess what, we took it to the 'Ring where it flew Awesome piece of kit that's now for sale

And, breath....

Honda Civic 1.7 Coupe. (this is my current daily driver and is 13 years old but is the only car I have owned with the later style number plate layout, I can afford newer cars but try to steer clear of cars that are too new as I've been rear ended 4 times now minding my own business sitting in traffic or at lights so I always try to own cars I will make money from the insurance claim rather than lose money.)

The Toyota's have all been great cars, (I've never had to put my hand in my pocket for any of them) and the Honda's haven't.

The more I look through the list of what you chaps have had, like Nick P says I really have had some heaps of crap, some things never change, but do fancy an alfa restoration project.

Also just remembered I had a Astra estate, I just wish Id completed the set with the all time favourite "Austin Maxi" pudding stirrer gear lever type thing. Got to drive my old fellas Maxi if I was lucky.

Mini 850 - Came with a fire extinguisher which I sadly needed to use after about 4 miles of ownership
Vauxhal Nova 1.3 SR - Loved this car and the insurance was surprisingly cheap for a boy racer car
Ford Escort 1.1 crap heap - threw a piston at me on M62!
Ford Fiesta 1.1 pop - Came free with the new girlfriend
Renault Clio 1.2 - Don't recall the model but was a piece of crap
BMW Mini Cooper S - had it for a year and lost less than £500 when I sold it
Alfa 145 Cloverleaf
Alfa 147 2.0 t-spark - cambelt let go on this one
Fiat Cinquecento - I weighed 17 stone when I had this so it was just like a big mechanical coat
Toyota iQ - when I was city living, ran on fresh air and awesome in the snow
Mk Indy ZX12r - which sadly I nearly finished and got running and then sold
Lada Niva Cossack off-roader
Renault Kangoo van - for the wifes business

twybrow - 10/12/13 at 11:57 AM

1985 Nissan Micra DX - in brown, with matching brown interior and seat belts! 1 litre of pure first car joy.
1992 Volvo 440 GL (1.8i) - one of the most comfy cars ever, and very low cost motoring for a 19 year old driver
1987 Pug 205 GTi (1.6) - stripped of everything non-essential and converted to a 1.9 for trackdays - lovely car
1996 Honda Civic 1.5i - bombproof. One of the most rleiable and lowest cost cars I have owned. Bought form my aunt who was still having it serviced by Honda despite being more than 10 years old at the time!
1998 Subaru Impreza Wagon 2000T - lovely car. Never missed a beat. Sold due to running costs which turned out to be far lower than the car that replaced it!
1998 Vauxhall Vectra 1.8 poverty spec - worst car ever. It cost fortune to run. It was unreliable and metallic brown - it did do great lift off oversteer
Volvo 960 LWB - bought cheap for a banger rally across Europe. So many toys!
2004 Honda Accord Tourer 2.2 CTDI - HUGE boot. Good to look at, and good toys, but dull to drive.
2009 Stuart Taylor (Triumph bike engine powered) - built by me and still owned today but with upgraded engine
2002 BMW 320i (E46) - lovely and smooth to drive. Too small for a family estate!
2001 Seat Leon Cupra 1.8t LPG converted - great fun, low cost and bombproof. Still wondering if I did the right thing letting it go!
2005 BMW E60 535D SE Touring - cracking engine, and a lovely car to waft along in - properly quick when you try too!

Nothing really exciting in mine.

1992 Vauxhall Astra Mk3 1.4 Cesaro (ended up looking like a GSI when I'd finished with it)
1994 Vauxhall Astra Mk3 2.0 GSi (ended up with 250 - throttle bodies and nitrous and a magazine feature)
1998 Honda Integra Type R JDM
1990 Ford Escort RS Turbo Combi Van (c. 250bhp)
2000 Vauxhall Corsa 2.0 XE (ended up weighing 700kg and had 210bhp)
2004 Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDi SE <company car>
2003 Vauxhall Astra Mk4 with VXR Conversion (250bhp)
2009 Volkswagen Golf 1.6 Bluemotion <company car>

RickRick - 10/12/13 at 12:40 PM

I think i need to change car more often
mk4 fiesta 1.25 bought 6 months old good first car, but got smashed into by a bus down one side, repaired then 2 weeks later a rover 800 down the other side, total replaced, both bumbers 4 wheels 2 front wings 2 rear quaters both doors boot and bonnet, figured it best get moved on

mk5 fiesta ZetecS (also known as mk4 facelift by some) this was brand new, then less than a year old used as a testbed for a turbo conversion by van aaken developmeants, my car, a guy from wales, and there own car all blew up in the first 3 weeks, but they got it sorted in the end, 150bhp was good fun and it really annoyed the st150 owners. also decat and twin exit exhaust, lowered, 16" wheels, mondao v6 brakes probably some other bits and bobs had that for 10 years

MNR Votex build started whilst i had the ZetecS, part funded by a pi claim from being splatted on a cb500

306 estate was ok, didn't cost much whilst i had it but was glad to be rid

BMW e39 530D its huge good on fuel comfy and fun, i think i'll be sticking to 5 series from now on i like it that much

swanny - 10/12/13 at 01:08 PM

some very long lists!

mine in 17 years of driving:

Normal cars:

E reg metro city. grandmas car until i inherited it
B reg Ford fiesta 1.1 pop, first proper car i owned. wish i had it now.
g reg astra Astra (red) bought from a mate when he lost his licence, then bought it back for the same price a year later
p reg purple astra, horrible should have bought the GSI one i really wanted. popped a head gasket too
s reg rover 800. brilliant, comfy barge. loved it. but not great for a derby to leeds commute so...
r reg skoda felicia: ran on cooking oil, literally cheap as chips. (eventually front suspension collapsed on m1)
54 plate corsa diesel. uber cheap and reliable.
51 plate rover 75 v6. brilliant car, very rare spec, now being pampered down south and doing 300 miles per year
53 plate focus. dads car. never liked it. crap on petrol, eventually sold it to buy
57 plate focus c max. 1.6 diesel. cheap to run family bus

Fun cars: (mostly alongside the normal ones)

Robin hood series one. (dad had it after me for another 10 years of pretty much free motoring sold it for what we paid 12 years later to a dealer in holland)
Robin Hood 2b - bought from the builder very tidy car, sold for more than i paid and offered the chance to buy it back again for less, but lacked the space
Quantum 2+2. practical, but heavy steering. came with tartan interior :-/
V8 Vindicator sprint - finally found somewhere to put my lovely engine. sounded brilliant, but young kids meant it did 400 miles in two years. sold and someone wrote it off within a year.
GTM spyder (now owned by my dad) best kit car ever for me. brilliant design. did daily service as my commuter car. built with all new bits. great car, but the family dont fit in it.
2003 reg MGZT260. my current beast. 4.6 litre mustang V8 engined car with x power exhausts. sounds epic. and comfy heated seats when its too cold for the bike! good Q car. 20 mpg :-(

jps - 10/12/13 at 01:11 PM

I'd bet on me having the shortest, and most uninspiring, list of anyone on this site...

2004 - 2011: Ford Ka
2013 - : Kia Ceed Sportwagen

1999 - 2009: Vespa ET4

And obviously:
2012 - : Haynes Roadster (at lest it will be eventually)...

chris mason - 10/12/13 at 05:00 PM

1981 Ford Fiesta 950cc rust coloured (leaked that bad when it rained it was drier standing outside)
1976 Mini 1000cc (Awesome car, nothing could stop and it, and that includes me when the m/c went approaching a hairpin)
1989 VW Golf Gti 8v (couldn't fault this one, although the rust on the tailgate wasn't good)
1985 VW Golf Gti 8v(this was the 1st car i modified in any way, stuck 16v engine in it for what it was worth)
1998 Vauxhall Combo (Works van, surprising what these can do when you don't own them )
2000 Astra Van (As above only quicker and better handling)
1998 Vauxhall Combo (Self employment required a reliable van, other than a rusty sump it was)
1998 Vauxhall Vectra 2.5 Sri (Hated this car, sounded well when the exhaust broke, but i just hated, sold it within months)
1998 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro (couldn't fault this car, didn't cost much to run other than fuel, kept it for about 3 years)
2004 MK Indy Blade (Woefully under powered but good fun, 1st kit car built, changed the engine after 2 trackdays)
2005 MK Indy R1 (The same chassis as above just an engine change, big difference between the 2)
2006 MK Indy S2000 (Thought i'd stick the much talked about S2000 engine in an Indy, still running hassle free to this day, albeit with it's 3rd owner)
2003 Ford Transit Connect (1st new vehicle i'd ever purchased, proper tonka van, ran flat out faultlessly for 3.5 years)
2001 VW Beetle 2.3 V5 (Looked well for a beetle, and went well upto 4k rpm, after that it felt restricted)
2002 VW Golf GTTDI (Kept this one a while, other than a clutch it took everything we threw at it, good car)
2007 MK/RR Sprint R (Good fun, and quick with the lower weight, but not in the same league as a genuine single seater)
2007 Ford Transit Connect (Time for a new works van, bought the 110ps this time, but changed it after 9 months)
2007 Ford Transit Sportvan (Not sure about Sporty, different yes, but not quick, then again it was work van no 4)
2005 Clio 182 Trophy (Stripped this one and had a full cage welded in, thanks Martin, Plus the rest of the interior was removed, best trackcar i'd had to date, and wouldn't hesitate to run another on track)
2005 Subaru Impreza STI PPP (Slower than expected, even had another remap to 330bhp, made a difference but just wasn't impressed)
2009 Road Runner SR2 (Probably the quickest kitcar of lot despite the 1600 mx5 engine, Fantastic round the bends, just seriously lacked any punch in a straight line)
2003 Audi RS6 (Remapped to approx 500bhp, awesome car, not cheap to run, but my 1st automatic and the twin turbo v8 made swift progress relaxing, until it got a bend )
2006 Porsche Cayman S (The best steering car i've ever had, the steering was direct, it went exactly where you pointed it and was reasonably quick for just 295bhp)

Still on the Drive

2011 VW Caddy (Bought the 140ps model, good van, and reasonably quick)
2003 Volvo S60 2.5t (Bought this as run around for a while, almost 3 years on we've still got it, it's got everything a new car would have, extremely comfy seats and it's cost almost nothing to run, other than the low 23mpg i'd keep this one till it gives up)

Wow that's more than i'd have guessed and i'm sure i've missed something, i'm only 18, and been driving for 6 months
Just off too dig out some pictures

Looking through all the pics i have, the car i miss the most is the RS6, i've got quite a few picture of this could put up, the ones of the interior/seats are immaculate despite suffering 70000 miles abuse.
If it wasn't for the fear of huge repair bill i'd buy one tomorrow

My first was a 1973 Beetle which I got in the late 80's and still have....one day i will finish it and get it on the road as I am yet to drive it a single foot

Also had;
Mini Clubmen automatic (yuk)
Mk2 Fiesta Popular van (cheap)
Rover 214 (8V K series with a carb....went very well until I wrote it off at 5mph)
Then I had this E30 M3 but in a totally 'standard' form. It was my daily driver for 4 years and I did over 45K miles in it, they really are as good as every review and I have missed it everyday since The only saving grace is I sold it to the guy in Norway knowing he was going to use it for what it was meant and turned it into the car it is today

Followed that with a string of boring family cars (Astra, Pug 306, Focus, Zafira) with only the Striker to keep me from going insane.... this year though we finally got to choose a slightly more fun car to replace one of the family cars (still have a Mazda 5...yawn) and have a nice new Mini Copper with a few options thrown in

Charlie_Zetec - 13/12/13 at 10:40 AM

Well the list of car's I've had the pleasure of owning isn't as impressive as some, but here goes (includes those purchased by me for SWMBO);

Now driving a E36 compact, fun but very much older feeling.

Also the westfeild, obviously!
