Jaguar S-type engine/gearbox feasibility?
scotty g - 20/9/16 at 08:15 PM

Hi all, a mate and myself were discussing the possibility of using the running gear from a Jag S-type in kit cars. Am i right in thinking it's a Duratec V6 in 2.5 and 3 litre variations? All alloy, good power, good torque, RWD.
Has anyone used this, would love to read up on someones build diary and get an idea of feasibility and costs.
Cheers. Scotty.

Worth a search on here there are several threads discussing this engine. As far as I can make out things to look out for are that all the jag engines came with dual mass flywheel, there is a debate whether the mondeo solid one fits, fuel flow rate is computer controlled and so does not have a return connection, there is a vct to control (not on mondeo), inlet ports are long and thin making bike to conversion more tricky, st220 plenum fits to reduce engine height I think. Hope this helps.

Done about 400miles in mine, a bit of a faff, but worth it in the end.

Should just say to forget the 2.5, it's exactly the same size as the 3 litre.

Yeah from what i've read so far the 2.5 isn't worth the effort as it has a few issues with it. Did you use the X-type sump & pickup pipe as this seams to be better?

X-Type sump and pick up. ST200 inlet, after a lot of modding. ST220 throttle body. After spending a lot of time, decided the Jag DMF was the only (for me) feasible route for the clutch.
The VVT is a simple on/off system, so triggered by the ECU at 5200rpm.

I'm assuming you went with an aftermarket ECU, which one did you go with?
What would you have done differently given the benefit of hindsight?
The more i look into other engine options the more suprised i am that people don't try to be more adventurous, so many good engines out there.
