What defines a "girly car"
steve m - 29/8/17 at 09:09 PM

Serious question, as I am/was! looking at changing my Mondeo, for something a bit smaller, more along a Ford Focus size of car

The car I mentioned to a friend, scoffed, at me, and said it was a girls car, now im worried

All I need is a four seater with a decent sized boot/tailgate,
Now, I will come clean as to what I was after, but would like to hear what others see as a girls/female car

Ie,

A Ford Ka is girly

My daily s a R32 golf it's 5 door,4wd, big boot, sounds great and goes like a stabbed rat

Anything that you don't have to have a second look at once you get out is not worth it.

I'd have a 106 - loads of very cheap fun (still miss my old one)

mind I never liked the mondeo's much in the first place, the original ones are horrible (although not as bad as a Vectra) and the later ones are a focus with an serious obesity problem

A girly car..... hmmmmm..... girls are short, therefore a girls car is anything someone under 5'5" would drive????

907 - 30/8/17 at 04:32 AM

Around here there's only one car you never see a bloke drive.

Mini

Buy what ever car you want it's your choice.

steve m - 30/8/17 at 06:44 AM

Thanks Andy for your witty comment

I quite like the look of the Ford Kuga, or cougar as my mate pointed out

The Kuga is basicly a revamped Focus

so now that ive come clean, is the Kuga a girly car

My mate had a Kuga, wouldn't say it was girly, he got shut after a month though, just didn't like it.

benchmark51 - 30/8/17 at 07:05 AM

Girly cars are usually defined by the tit that's driving them, so if your mate say's your car is Girly, give him a slap.

craigdiver - 30/8/17 at 07:07 AM

I personally would avoid these, however, I would take Nicki Minaj's pink lambo for free. Hopefully you can see the theme to avoid ;-)

Also avoid cars with eyelashes!

Maybe point out to him that the 1970's have ended. Does he have side burns and drive a Capri?

pekwah1 - 30/8/17 at 07:35 AM

My mate bought a Tiguan and I take the wee calling him a soccer mom now... bu as others have said, get whatever you like and you want, who cares what other people think. Would I get one, no, but st the same time I don't really care if someone else is driving one!

As I see it the C-max is a stretched up focus, the Kuga is more or less the same but adds ground clearance and maybe haldex 4x4 (like all the other soft-roaders) other than that the Kuga's tend to only come in higher trim specs...

out of the three personally I'd have the focus - it'll be cheaper, weigh less, handle better, go faster and use less fuel than the equivalent kuga.

however in reality due to having small people to transport on a daily basis - I've got the c-max now
its defiantly a family car, but not quite a full on people carrier (its still a quite chuckable on the twisty roads )

Not really

but to me it says a family car for someone who doesn't want to admit they need a family car (if that makes sense)
I'd place it a closer to a nissan qashqai or maybe a vw tiguan

Apart from joking about pink cars, I do drive a practical Fiat Qubo, 1.3 diesel, 95bhp, 70mpg, £30 road tax, fun to drive, sliding rear doors, smallish car but tonnes of room inside for my two 6ft tall teenage sons. And, cheap as chips to buy ('15' plate £7.5k).

To get my thrills I have a big V-twin Aprilla bike and a Haynes Roadster on the way!

nick205 - 30/8/17 at 01:01 PM

Mini

Never liked them and they seem to be driven young ladies with wealthy parents or middle aged ladies with a touch of mid-life crisis.

Others mention MX5s, they seem ok to me though.

All in if a Focus does what you need go for it.

Benzine - 30/8/17 at 02:11 PM

Any car with a windscreen

I will confess to thinking the MX5 a bit hairdresser, until I drove one - it was actually a very pleasant and fun experience. If I ever sell my Locost and still want a fun car, then the MX5 has to be top of the list.

Wife has a Bipper Tepee. You can hose it out which is great with a three year old. I'd have been tempted too but tow weights are pathetic.

907 - 30/8/17 at 04:48 PM

Doughnut underestimate an MX5

r1_pete - 30/8/17 at 05:13 PM

I think it all comes down to how you accessorize :-

Good point - and another down view on Minis for me. My local supermarket car parks have plenty of Minis with such adornments on them.

Is there no regulation to stop this?

coyoteboy - 31/8/17 at 10:14 AM

I think it depends on the driver. If you're man enough, no car is girly

Smoking Frog - 31/8/17 at 11:40 AM

I wouldn't consider a Kuga as a girly car but it also depends on the colour. I like to think these things don't affect me. But I can't say I was totally at ease driving my wife's cars which included a lilac Puma, Mini and purple Rav4 (SWB).
