Guy Martin: The World's Fastest Van?

Guy Martin rebuilds his beloved transit van and tries to break the van lap record
at the dangerous and demanding Nürburgring in Germany.
But the huge undertaking threatens to end in disaster.

I was reading about this in his latest book.
Transit converted to mid-engine and IRS.

No doubt I'll watch it as I find him quite watchable.

Being TV they like to stoke these things up and make them seem on the edge though.

I recall that myself (childhood days for me).

More or less an F1 car in a Transit body shell.

When they first built Supervan 3 is was at one of the first trackdays I did at Donington in my Striker Fortunately it was out in the 'pro' sessions whilst I plodded around in the 'beginner' group

Sad to admit it was probably Supervan1 I saw running at the British (or European) GP at Brands in '81 or '82. I suspect they just swapped the body panels every time a new mk came out.

Reminds me of the Renault Espace F1

there's a guy on the PassionFord forum building a supervan replica at the moment.

Ford F350 V8, and a Mustang IRS

Watched part of the Guy Martin programme on Sunday and the rest last night.

Watchable TV and personally I find Guy OK to view. Yes some of the programme content is setup and scripted for TV, but then it's TV and they want an audience.

I found it interesting that was he was carrying on with his own Transit project from before. I've always had a soft spot for Transits (my Dad's always had them for work) for many years and aside from not being allowed to drive (epilepsy) at the moment and having 3 kids I'd probably have one.

When fire broke out in the back of the van around the engine it seemed a bit far fetched that they didn't have a plumbed in fire extinguisher system as most race and rally cars do. Also seems unlikely (to me) that the driver and co-pilot would have no idea there was a fire. As above though it's TV for an audience I guess!

All in a good show IMHO, although possibly a bit long.
