Phoenix weight
cerbera - 9/9/14 at 06:58 PM

Had my cars geo checked / adjusted last night and whilst doing the corner weights found my car weighed 472kg with 1/3 tank of fuel.

The weight was a lot lighter than what I expected. Is this the norm for bike engined phoenix, furys et al?

It certainly doesn't surprise me; they're very light cars.

My old Crossflow engined Clubmans/Phoenix tipped the scales at 509kg, without any particular weight-saving measures (cast iron bellhousing, for example).

I think the Fury chassis is a little bit heavier, but not by a huge amount.

I know it's not a Phoenix/fury... But my car engined 4age striker is 522kg fully wet with a full rollcage!

I think JP had a knack of keeping the weight down...Ive just had my J15 tested at the IVA centre and that came in at 500kgs with a full tank. And thats got a car engine!

There's me thinking mine was fairly light but sounds portly next to the above car engined examples.

This is good news as I was worried (sort of) that my caged striker may tip over the 600 mark.

Yours is still coming out around 30kg's less than my CEC, and at these sort of weights that still represents a significant saving.

I haven't tried to hard to save weight either, more the style of the build... I.e. A simple powder coated Ali dash, foam seats, aero screen so no wipers etc.... I would find it hard to add 80kg to my build... Mine still doesn't tip 600 with me in it... But there's not much of me either!

mine is 530kg...and exactly as you said. without ANY weight-saving measures

My old R1 engined Phoenix with very lightweight bodywork came in at 428kgs.

My R1 engined Fury 455kg. Both with c.1/4 tank. Other than the screen / body I would say there is little between the two.

Heavier wheels and tyres and discs all round on the Phoenix but lightweight body and aeroscreen

vs

Heavier body, lighter wheels, Full Screen and drums on the back
