Hello from a striker owner
striker-euan - 30/10/13 at 10:49 AM

Hi
I thought I should say hi before asking (many) questions. I've recently bought a 4age 16v powered raw striker and stay near Edinburgh.

This is my first kit car and I didn't realise how much web browsing would be required as a kit car owner!
I'm finding this site is a great source of info.

Thanks.
Euan

Welcome mate, you will find this a great site and probably all of your questions will have been asked over the years so don't forget the search feature.

Cheers

Rich

Welcome from another Striker owner (although mine's a Sylva).
I think the first thing you need to do is shower us with some lovely photos of your car!

You picked a good time of year to buy a kit car too!

Thanks for the welcome. I'll get some photos.

It's good too see some more striker owners. Let the quizing begin ;-)

1) Is your engine parallel to the center-line of the car?
2) Is your diff solidly mounted to the chassis (for those with IRS)?
3) Any issues running 195/50/15 tyres with standard arches? Mine rub a bit on the outside of the rear arches, but there are also some marks showing it has rubbed on the inside at some point?
4) Anyone using a shortened sump? Any issues/recommendations?

The reason I ask 1 and 2 is that I've got a lot of drivetrain noise and Road and Race recommend I check out other sources of noise before resorting to sending the diff to them. One thing they said to check was that the propshaft output flange is parallel to the diff input flange.

Thanks for any answers/advice.

No , very much off centered due to the compact nature of the chassis.

2) Is your diff solidly mounted to the chassis (for those with IRS)
Yes

3) Any issues running 195/50/15 tyres with standard arches? Mine rub a bit on the outside of the rear arches, but there are also some marks showing it has rubbed on the inside at some point?
Could be down to offset of wheel, rather than tyre size.

4) Anyone using a shortened sump? Any issues/recommendations?
for a zetec, lots of guides on here, not sure about the toyota lumps, try a search on here or google.

props are usually best set so there is a slight angle.

Almost deffinatly not.
2) Is your diff solidly mounted to the chassis (for those with IRS)?
Yup
3) Any issues running 195/50/15 tyres with standard arches? Mine rub a bit on the outside of the rear arches, but there are also some marks showing it has rubbed on the inside at some point?
My 185 rub so I shaved the arch a little. If you have a newish rear tube then it may be in 3sections. Raw can supply wider arches that just bolt on.
4) Anyone using a shortened sump? Any issues/recommendations?
Not on my 4age. I dont ground out. The design is already quite good on the stock sump. I have an accusump so no starvashion concerns.

Describe the noise and somebody may be able to diagnose the issue. Whine while accelerating? Let off rattle?

Thanks for any answers/advice.
