Cheap source for tintop battery?
McLannahan - 6/4/09 at 09:04 PM

After stupidly leaving my poor Passat for a month or two the battery is stuffed. Charged it right up last night and took it to work today. Would it start at the end of the day? Would it hell...

So new battery it is!

Any recommendations? Looked at Halfrauds - over £100. Cheapest I can find appears to be £70.

It's a TDi 130 on a 53 plate.

Thanks all

Do you know anyone with a Halfrauds trade card? I get massive discount off Halfords branded batteries with mine. Normally between 30-50% off.

Sadly not Mark!

eBay? I bought a leisure battery back in December and it was alot cheaper on ebay than Halfords even paying around £10 for delivery.

I had to get a new battery for my Passat (1.8 non-turbo) and found the local motor factors was quite a lot cheaper than Halfrauds. Cost about £40-50 as far as I remember

look in yellow pages, under auto electrical wholesalers many will do retail as well as trade. got one recently about 35% cheaper than the normal tyre/battery/exhaust places.

Do you know anyone with a Costco card? I bought a battery 2 weeks ago much cheaper than I could find anywhere else, including the internet. It is a Bosch (the only brand they do) and it came with a lifetime warranty as long as I am a Costco member. The battery was for a Corsa and cost £37.00.

+1. They're silver / calcium too, IIRC.

Halfrauds with Trade card - get down there and blag one off one of the prettier assistants - tell her you are a car manufacturer spending a coupe of hundred quid a week / month /whatever it takes to get a trade card

I got a battery from our local scrappy - every one is £10 and replaced if duff- mine cameoff a golf diesel and is fantastic!

Vauxhall with my trade club card...

They do batteries for 99% of car makes.

Average price is around 40 for a decent size battery

Thanks everyone - looks like the consensus is to get a trade card!
