Changing euro to pond in UK
belgian2b - 1/7/11 at 06:13 PM

Hello,

I will travel to UK next week to buy a car with a friend.

He was planning to travel with euro and change them for pounds in UK once he is sure that the car is ok.

Where is the best place to change the money ? Bank, post office, or any other solution ?

I just been to Germany, I got my Euro's in my Local Tesco Store.
They do currency exchange, and so do the Post Office.
Couldnt get much better deal anywhere else.

Look on their website and compare their rates with others.

Think of Travellers checques, or a pre-paid Credit card.

Hope this helps.

Bear in mind that unless you are in London, you'll be lucky to find anywhere to exchange large amounts of euro's outside of normal banking / office / shop hours.

So 9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday you'll be OK.

The lad who bought my Landie arrived in Newcastle at 7pm on a Sunday night with a big pile of Euro's!

Money laundering regulations can make it difficult ---- you will need to present two sources of ID

... and many places have limits as to the amount they will change!

As for rates... the Post Office and Marks and Spencer tend to be the best.

Hello,

we will be there Wednesday during the day, and it is not a large amount ( around 2000 pounds).

Where do you think i could find a good changing rate ?

sterling is good value to buy atm. might be worth a chance to buy it anyway before you leave home.

Or better still find somebody about to go to europe, and do the deal at the mid rate. That way you both get a much better rate.
We are doing this when we visit the States. The chap we are visiting wants sterling for the UK shortly after our holiday. We take a stack of £20's, he gives us USD. Simple, and the banks make no money from us
