Help Wanted - Anyone know where I can purchase some Bamboo poles of decent size (50 - 80mm)
Steve Hignett - 6/7/12 at 10:45 AM

Hi All,

I need to get my hands on a few metre's of Bamboo poles and I don't know where to go for them.
I've spoken to my local wood specialists and they don't do it and don't know where to get it from.

I need it for a project I am planning to start in the next few weeks, so as long as I can afford it, would like to buy it pretty quickly...
Also, I am not too bothered if I have to buy it from an internet site, but as apreference, if anyone knew of a place in the Cheshire area, then that would be the preference.

I know I could grow my own and it is quick growing and I think I will next year, but I want it sooner than that.

So, thanks in advance for all your help and suggestions...
Steve

Guessed that'd be you, Steve.

Lots of stuff comes up if you google "bamboo poles". A quick look found one in Colne, Lancs but only listing by the bundle of 10. THIS one does singles.

Ebay, doesn't seem reliable after contacting members, and expensive...

Phil, err yes
It's on like Donkey Kong, but keep it under your hat

It will look awesome if that's what your up to.

err Yeah, but I'm a bit dubious as to how successful I'll be so, not going to shout about it until I've failed...

I quite fancy building a CF & Bamboo spaceframe BEC for my son, next year, so I reckon a pushbike is a good place to start!

Well, that and I'm not in a hurry to do the micro-tot type car 'cause my son is only 2

Don't know if it still applies, lots of carpet rolls used to come with bamboo poles inside to stop them bending. They were both thick and long, why noy phone your local carpet shop, worth a call.

You want something like these I saw in Hong Kong a couple of years ago...

They were the base of scaffolding that went 15 - 20 floors up, tied together with the sort of hard plastic tape you would use on a big parcel, and with no load spreading plates on the pavement.

Scary... but they worked...
