Boat identification.

Just because you lot know everything.

My sister has recently bought a houseboat that she thinks was a lifeboat of some flavour in the past, but doesn't know much about it otherwise.

My googlefu has almost entirely failed, due to knowing nothing about boats other than the whole "they live in water" thing.

So... what is it?

What I know:

ex-lifeboat (Poss merchant Navy)
Built around 1950
Riveted steel hull
28ft long 9.5ft wide
Called Pyewacket
Petter PH2 two-stroke engine
Engine no: 50148PH2RMR
Boat Reg number: G15928

oh, and it looks like this...

Agreed - looks like a retired ships lifeboat with a homemade wheelhouse. I dont know the make....

britishtrident - 13/4/13 at 01:14 PM

Yes pretty standard converted ships life boat with a superstructure added.

In the 1950s they were often built in-house by the shipbuilder of the parent vessel.
By the 1960s they were more often being built in GRP

Ask on YBW.com and you'll get the complete low down on it. I can do it for you but registering is simple... Would look great in bright RNLI orange

Ok at the risk of being mocked...that looks quite cute to me, not that I'm a boat person.

Is that the pub in the background?

I think it looks great

I do believe that is the pub, yes.

thanks zagato, I'll have a poke on there.

Boats are places men go to, when they are bored with their mancave. Also double up rather well as a huffy bed too

BenB - 13/4/13 at 04:47 PM

Pub looks nice. I found this

PYEWACKET 7 Built by Seamaster 23 in 1974 - Length 7 metres (23 feet ) - Beam 3 metres (9 feet 10 inches ) a Diesel Inboard engine with a power of 47HP . Registered with EA Thames Region number G1395 as a Non Hire Annual. Last registration recorded on 28-May-2011.

Which sounds about right to me.
Might be completely wrong. And probably am.

But looking at pictures of Seamaster 23 boats it does look they have previous.

BenB - 13/4/13 at 04:56 PM

How recently did she buy it? There's a few other bits + pieces out there!

Staple balls - 13/4/13 at 05:03 PM

She got it a few months ago I think, currently being fixed due to being more leaky than a leaky thing on leaky week.

BenB - 13/4/13 at 05:16 PM

Arse. Engine code shows it's a PH2RMR which has a stump pulling 16.5Hp on tap. So clearly not the one above. Hohum!

mookaloid - 13/4/13 at 05:29 PM

I want one - and I don't know why

bob - 13/4/13 at 09:02 PM

I like that little boat that much i'm thinking of phoning my solicitor monday so as to start divorce proceedings with Mrs Bob, or it might just be the ale....again.

T66 - 13/4/13 at 09:14 PM

Boats = damp huffy beds that bob....

It's the Jamesons at fault.

I predict a Riot - 13/4/13 at 09:21 PM

You're guaranteed two good days when you own a boat.

The day you buy it.

And the day you sell it!!!

Trust me, I've been there.

Is this your sisters boat last year ?

By the way the Petter PH series were 4 stroke not 2 stroke.
Many memories as a JE of starting these engines and the equivalent Listers by hand during Saturday morning lifeboat checks, it is essential to use the de-compression lever when starting.

I'd guess so, there can't be that many boats called pyewacket with a shed as a wheelhouse out there.
