Anyone watched any good films recently?
DarrenW - 25/7/13 at 09:47 PM

Just watched The Purge. Anyone else seen it.......... rather disturbing!!

Saw haunted House last week -some bits were not too my liking but overall very funny.

Rather liked "Trance". Not a great film but easy and good to watch.

Despicable Me 2 is really great. Bottom

dave107 - 25/7/13 at 09:53 PM

Just watched salt with Angelina Jolie brilliant spy film and she's pretty hot too

twybrow - 25/7/13 at 09:53 PM

I do a film marathon every time I fly to China...

Djano Unchained - Tarantino film. Enjoyed it
7 Phsycopaths - good black comedy, worth a watch
Trance - Danny Boyle film. I had not heard if it, but i really enjoyed it

morcus - 25/7/13 at 09:59 PM

Branigan

DarrenW - 25/7/13 at 10:04 PM

Django was brilliant.

Not heard of Salt but will look out for it.

Trance is one of those surprisingly good films probably because you havent heard of it.

Penthouse North was a decent watch.

I travel a lot hence needing some entertainment. iPad 2 with Bose QC noise cancelling headphones work really great. Not cheap but ive had for a while now so probs down to £2.50 a trip. Ive also got priority pass which is proving really useful!

Assault on Wall Street - interesting film but seems to be 2 distinct halves.

F&F 6 - very entertaining. Yeah of course its totally OTT but isnt that the point...... Love the mk1!

loggyboy - 25/7/13 at 10:07 PM

Was pleasantly surprised by the new superman.

DarrenW - 25/7/13 at 10:08 PM

I quite enjoyed "Killing Season". You have to get past Travolta's bloody awful casting and accent though

GI joe retaliation is worth a watch. Not happy to pay for it though. More of a travelling marathon movie to pass time.

Nowt wrong with that. I saw the 2D version with mine - thought it was fantastic. i even watched the first film in the week before.

is "The Croods" any good?

I started to watch "American Virgins" but stopped watching after about 10 mins - terrible film.

liam.mccaffrey - 25/7/13 at 10:24 PM

I really enjoyed pacific rim, best special effects I have seen in a film.

coozer - 25/7/13 at 10:30 PM

Ive seen all 7 of them now.

nick205 - 25/7/13 at 10:41 PM

I have a real problem with films - my maximum attention span is around 41 mins, after that I've generally got to go and do something else. Often known to fall asleep in cinemas too!

chrism - 25/7/13 at 10:51 PM

Looper is pretty good, just watched Man on a Ledge last night was good but dont think it would be as good the second time watching as you would know all the plot twists.

A few others Ive watched recently are

End of Watch - Pretty Good
Fast and Furious 6 - Good if you like that sort of thing, I think the bad reviews came from people expecting too much, its a Fast and Furious film.
I, Superbiker The Takedown (I superbiker 3) - Good if you like bikes
unknown
confessions of a dangerous mind
50/50 - A bit sad but really good.
Horrible Bosses
2001 A Space Odyssey - Classic
Senna
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Jim Carey doing none comedy, it really works.
Flash Gordon - Another Classic
Man on the Moon - Jim Carey again doing something serious with a bit of comedy.

bi22le - 25/7/13 at 11:10 PM

Wait till rush is out and go see how hunt used to play the game of life, legend.

Mr Whippy - 26/7/13 at 05:26 AM

Got OZ the great and powerful on blue ray. Very well done however ironically for what's meant to be a kids Disney film it's too scary for young children and clearly aimed more at adults

snakebelly - 26/7/13 at 06:20 AM

Another vote for pacific rim, went to see "The Worlds End" the other night but dissapointed 7/10, world War Z was good, cant beat a good Zombie movie :-)

Oooh - im not sure. I thought there were 6 official ones. I didnt count Clone Wars. I was being a bit cheeky saying 7 as i have a slightly alternative version as well

I took my kids to see this because they were banging on about it for weeks and lets just say this film was responsible for the most expensive sleep I have ever had!
I lasted about 15 mins into the film and then i started catching flies.
It's just pointless for me to go to the cinema, I just can't stay awake.

Am I the only one who does this?

I wonder if I can get a reduction in the ticket price since I only manage 15 mins of a film lol !

For slightly alternative versions, I highly recommend the Family Guy Star Wars Trilogy. More TV than film, but such a well written p155 take!

With regards to good films, I just seem to have been subjected to a whole load of bad films recently. The Host (loved the concept, the film was a bad teen love flick), Die Hard 6 (Willis might be old, but the problem is the story not the actor), GI Joe Retaliation (Sorry DarrenW, I enjoyed the first one but this one was p00), I can't even remember any others because they were so bad. I am getting to the point now that I don't want to watch a film as I'm half expecting to get to the end of it and be wanting a refund on the time I've just wasted.

balidey - 26/7/13 at 07:34 AM

Just watched a couple of Jason Statham films.
Parker, the usual bad guy doing good things whilst punching and shooting. Not a bad film, but far from great.
Killer Elite. Now, this is a good one to ponder over. On its own its a pretty good action film. But when you consider its meant to be a true story (based on Ranulph Feinnes The Feather Men) then that adds a whole new twist. Did someone really go after SAS troopers and murder them and manage to make it look like accidents?

theconrodkid - 26/7/13 at 07:36 AM

Wall e....best film in the world ever

it was on film 4 or channel 4 the other night - so it'll be round again soon...
I thought it was ok, but I've seen better

I didn't think Despicable Me 2 was quite as good as the first one, but still worth a watch

world war Z was worht a watch too, but all I could here through the whole film was "look, look, that's my old salad bar...." - the inside shots of the labs were all shot in the old Pfizer buildings at sandwich were my GF used to work
still its quite funny seeing Glasgow overrun by zombies at the beginning (well they call it Philadelphia, but its quite clearly Glasgow, even if you didn't know it was filmed there...)

MP3C - 26/7/13 at 08:45 AM

"Now you see me" is a good film, went to the cinema to watch it last weekend! really good and with a good ending!

Also watched Van Helsing the other day, love that film!

scudderfish - 26/7/13 at 09:10 AM

Yesterday my 9 yr old daughter and I spent approx 12 hours watching Star Wars in the order 4, 5, 2, 3, 6

I thought you might have been referring to the Ewok spinoff movie Caravan of Courage which also has a sequel called Battle for Endor, its sorta Star Wars.

Ouch, the longest Ive ever done was when my friends gathered as a group to watch all the extended Lord of the Rings in one go, a mere 11hours.

No I'm sure he means space balls!

Legendary film.

UncleFista - 26/7/13 at 10:42 AM

I really enjoyed "Oblivion" last night, despite TomCruise.

I'm a sucker for Sci-fi though

One of the most predictable story lines ever, his wife was the only good thing in the whole film

Hall Pass...........LMAO!!

balidey - 26/7/13 at 03:00 PM

Need to watch Naughty Nurses 17 before the porn ban.
Not as good as Naughty Nurses 16, but then not many sequels are.

Is that a missus imposed porn ban, or the so-called 'opt in' controls that the goverment want to put in place? If it's the latter, I think you'll be ok as you can just ask for permission. Rumour has it that the icon will resemble a brown paper bag and will be put at the top of the web page...

The joys of the school holidays.
My boys watched the whole of the last TopGear series (4 episodes) and when that had finished we polished it off with some vintage TG on Dave.

02GF74 - 26/7/13 at 05:59 PM

my suggestion is Valhalla Rising - was on BBC iplayer a few weeks ago.

I thought I was the only person daft enough to pull the LOTR session off, took a day off work on the day of the release of the extended ROTK.

A bloke I work with has the original Star Wars film on laser disk, and a player, I must persuade him for a screening, it was him that put me onto the machete cut, I do fancy giving it a try.

DarrenW - 30/7/13 at 04:31 PM

I watched BlackOut last night. All but the last 10 minutes was good, really spoiled by a rushed ending.

coozer - 30/7/13 at 06:25 PM

Saying that wouldn't mind going to see that Rush film that's coming out soon, or downloading it...

coozer - 30/7/13 at 06:35 PM

Might dig The Life Of Brian out for the millionth giggle..

Then If I could get a decent copy of The Fearless Vampire Killers (Sharon Tate naked in the bath) I'd give some time to that.
Its also sometimes called 'Pardon me, your teeth are in my neck'

snakebelly - 30/7/13 at 07:58 PM

Just been to see the new Wolverine movie this evening which wasnt bad, 9 / 10

coozer - 30/7/13 at 08:10 PM

Nearly forgot!

<---------- the film about group B rallying that my avatar came from has been on the BBC again recently, catch it on the iPlayer!
