END OF PHOTOBUCKET
Tazzzzman1 - 5/7/17 at 07:57 AM

Just a heads up for those who may not be aware.
Photobucket are no longer allowing images to be shared without charging a yearly ransom $399

This affects loads of people and has already buggered up people using photobucket for build blogs, ebay, amazon etc..

BBC-PHOTOBUCKET RANSOM

So all you guys using photobucket beware as your image links will be gone

tegwin - 5/7/17 at 08:13 AM

What a bizzare business model.... If they had given notice and decided to charge a few quid a month in sure people would have just paid...

As it is photbucket has been an awkward ad fest for a few years now so I'm not surprised it's going down!

Test

nick205 - 5/7/17 at 08:59 AM

I'm sure a lot of people use Photobucket, but it's another one I'm glad I don't use!

loggyboy - 5/7/17 at 09:04 AM

I stopped using it a couple of years back when it became worse than those clickbait site for adverts and pop ups and generally over commercialisation.

Strange - I seem to be able to link to pictures, and old posts on other forums still show the linked pictures too. It will interesting to see how long this one lasts.

loggyboy - 5/7/17 at 09:56 AM

It wont affect 'little' locostbuilders - its only when they are posted on large commercial pages like ebay and amazon. Its just to stop businesses use them as a free hosting intended for private users.

Not quite what it says in the Photobucket terms of use:

quote:

Photobucket defines 3rd party hosting as the action of embedding an image or photo onto another website.

For example, using the <img> tag to embed or display a JPEG image from your Photobucket account on another website such as a forum,.....

Excellent work! Proves that what one man sees as scrap another puts to good use

True, and I have begun to note it on some other forums so I guess it just depends on if the site in question is flagged by their algorithms.

I have been bleating on about this for years. DONT trust businesses with your files!!!!!!!!!!!! Storage is cheap.

True enough - $399 would pay for a good wedge of storage space of your own!

I'm not sure this is about trusting, or using a business to store files - but rather using it as a hosting site to provide links on forums etc and possibly for others to view your pictures. Any I have on photobucket or elsewhere for that purpose are safety stored (and backed up) on physical media.

Mash - 5/7/17 at 08:51 PM

I've been losing the ability to view other members pictures on other forums over a period of a few weeks, and apparently PB are gradually working through their systems and cutting links, so I'm guessing that it will hit this forum soon

I don't think it's related to size of forum, as the motorbike forum I'm a member of (totally TTRs) has been hit already, and that's probably smaller than this one.

Mr Whippy - 6/7/17 at 06:00 AM

sounds like they are in self destruct mode and will be gone very shortly

christim - 10/7/17 at 09:10 PM

F*%k it....thats my build thread screwed! Looks like they might be doing it by account rather than site? I can still see the above test pics for now

geoff shep - 13/7/17 at 08:20 AM

Mine have gone now - see above.

I see that the OP's avatar is on PB and that is still going strong.

Digimon - 13/7/17 at 09:18 AM

My build thread has been affected as well

adithorp - 13/7/17 at 09:25 AM

My life is all went down a few days ago but only received an email from them today. Needless to say I would t be paying $400pa and will just host elsewhere.

Neville Jones - 13/7/17 at 09:31 AM

I had to download my images one at a time to get them back. Laborious.

Now using Cubeupload. Quick and easy to use, and free, for the time being.

Cheers,
Nev.
