what would you do with that
Messenjah - 29/1/06 at 04:00 PM

euromillions jackpot estimated for 125million on friday

what would you do with that much money

personally id spend / give away about 25million
paying off family mortgages and buying people new cars and redecorating and stuff

give 1million to each of my closest friends

buy myself a few cars one for every day of the month probably

give atleast 5 million stright away to cancer reasearch having had several family members die of cancer

and then bank about 100mil and live in extreme comfort with the rest in the bank earning over 12k intrest a day

atleast 4 of which would go to various charities

but i think id still go to school even if i paid the clever people to do my coursework lol

john_p_b - 29/1/06 at 04:09 PM

if i was to win the whole lot i'd likely try and find somewhere to hide! imo winning that amount would destroy lives!

in theory though i'd do pretty much the same as you but i'd want to set up my own buisness and actually keep working, i get bored when i'm on holiday for 2 weeks so no chance of me retiring just yet!

mookaloid - 29/1/06 at 04:11 PM

5 mill on booze.......
5 mill on betting........
5 mill on loose women........

and then I'd probably just waste the rest.....

zenarcher - 29/1/06 at 04:56 PM

I would buy 125 million Lottery tickets just to see if I could win it again.

zenarcher - 29/1/06 at 04:59 PM

BTW Can anyone see my Avatar? I can't

piddy - 29/1/06 at 05:10 PM

I would start with a TVR Tuscan.

JoelP - 29/1/06 at 05:30 PM

id not tell anyone, stick it in the bank, and have a long hard think!

you would probably run out as you would suddenly have more than 125 "close friends"

omega 24 v6 - 29/1/06 at 06:02 PM

Erm you can't really just give away money as easily as that ( unearned income etc).
No I can't see your avatar either.
If I won I'd have.

A workshop with a bradbury ramp
Paint booth
Machine shop built on side of main workshop
All the tools I'd ever need
A range rover sport in white or metallic blue
A Monaro VXR
A Lotus Carlton for Fun
A helicopter ( must learn to fly)
A Luxury yacht in the med for the winter months (August to June)
And I'd have one all expenses paid huge party for all freinds and family at a top hotel for a long weekend.
Oh plus trust funds for the kids.

Now how much would I have left after that?

Actually the only sensible answer so far has been JoelP's.
Does this show sensibility or a lack of imagination No offence intended mate.

dave1888 - 29/1/06 at 06:29 PM

I'd borrow a tenner from someone and pay of my debt

Peteff - 29/1/06 at 06:47 PM

I've won the lottery luv, pack your suitcase.
Where are we going?
We?

Joel's reply
id not tell anyone, stick it in the bank, and have a long hard think!
There was a radio 5 live phone in and a woman on there said she had won £1.5 million last year and banked it, not telling her husband as he had a drug problem previously and it would be unfair on their two children with all the disruption. She feared the holidays and quitting work would ruin their lives.

JoelP - 29/1/06 at 06:59 PM

a long hard think need only last a few minutes

Theres lots id like to do, you just need to go about it the right way!

mark.s - 29/1/06 at 07:25 PM

ditch the blade and go for a busa

Benzine - 29/1/06 at 07:39 PM

I'd buy an island and start my own country. I don't care how much time or money it would take to be internationally recognised as a country, even it took my whole life.

zilspeed - 29/1/06 at 07:42 PM

Querstion is - would any of you finish / keep your locost.

Anyone that says they wouldn't finish their locost might just as well admit that the only reason they don't already have a Caterham is because they can't afford one.

Think about it...............

I'll get me coat

andyharding - 29/1/06 at 07:55 PM

I could have afforded an MK, MAC1, Luego etc but I built my own cause I thought I could do it better

i'd keep the indy just make it better and probably build a few more with all the spare time i'd have. the cosworth would have a full resoration too inc 500bhp engine build and be joined in the new built garage by a concourse escort cosworth and a sierra RS500. oh and a E-type for my dad

steve_gus - 29/1/06 at 08:49 PM

I heard that too. I thought she was pretty amazing to do that. She was 'drip feeding' the money intomthe family by getting 'pay rises and bonuses'.

Nice intentions Messenjah - however you wont have 125m left after adding up all your other numbers

125m is more than anyone would need. If you had a couple million, at 5% interest that would be 100k a year (after tax about 65k or so) to live on.

Even as much as 10m would be enough to life a great life and make all your family happy too.

I think id put summat like 20m towards the building and upkeep of a local centre for autistic kids. My son has some autism and the system just dumps them after 11 years old. 20m would be enough to buy the land, pay the wages and fund the place ad infinitum (would be at least 15m left after building which would pretty well fund the place at 5% interest).

Sod it, I think id build three. ID put my name in them somewhere, so ad least id be remembered for more than making food x-ray machines and posting bollox on the net

DarrenW - 29/1/06 at 10:11 PM

Id bank it and use the interest firstly. Golden rule dont waste your capital.

Secondly bu the council house.

Holiday - pick the best villa at Scarborough Butlins.

Get the kids a bike each instead of one between 9.

Aston Martin for wife.
Bentley continental for me.

Car port on side of shed.

Collar for dog.

Negotiate 3 days a week contract with gaffer.

Start with a Tuscan?

Why not start with TVR - only sold for £15m last time round.

I'd buy the RNLI a couple of new boats, help out a couple of local charities, and family/friends, then pay an accountant to ensure that Gordon Brown never got another penny tax of me

Cos you can do that when you're rich!!!!

Your all far to altruistic......

I would spend the money on a worthy cause... Me!

As for the Avon? - I would buy it off Tiger and produce it how it 'should be' all niggles fixed and - only available as Hyabusa Turbo BEC or Cosworth Turbo CEC

Full kit all sorted - and of course discount to locostbuilders members - how about £250 a kit ?

Heheh. Show my your lottery ticket and you've got your first pre-order!

James - 30/1/06 at 03:21 PM

Mclaren F1 to start.

Followed shortly by decent house/garage to keep it in!

After that, not that bothered really about stuff for me. Give a load away I guess.

Maybe a DB9 for a daily driver, save the Mclaren for weekends!

Can you buy your own Eurofighter?
Maybe not with only 125mill to spend!

Cheers,
James

EDIT: Guess I could park a Veryon in the garage too!

Got a mate who was brokering a bunch of MIGs last year. Serviceable, flyable but no armaments. Couldn't get USD $10K for them!!!! Ended up being worth more in scrap than intact.

There was a Mig parked at our local airfield for years until it virtually rotted away. I know - it's aluminium, but you know what I mean

Messenjah - 31/1/06 at 08:46 AM

they were selling them on iwantoneofthose.com for £199,999 untill some spoil sport from the government said they couldnt incase someone hurt themselves or something like that
