That would be me then. >60 physically, >12 mentally.

nick205 - 22/1/08 at 05:42 PM

33, started building aged 28 and SVA'd my Indy last year on my 32nd birthday

I think phelpsa might be one of the youngest - he was doing his GCSEs not that long ago.

tjoh84 - 22/1/08 at 05:42 PM

yea dan__wright is 20 it one of the first posts

wicket - 22/1/08 at 05:44 PM

Luego Locost on the road 18 months, 66 next birthday.

tegwin - 22/1/08 at 05:47 PM

I was 18 when I started...now im nearly 20

Built by myself!

bassett - 22/1/08 at 05:53 PM

Tried a Chapman Locost build for £250 at 16, realised it was a stupid idea and now at 22 (21 when purchased) building a realistic MNR Vortx . Better include the old man as its a joint build and hes 53.

Think 'phelpsa' is the youngest, don't know who the oldest might be.

I love speed :-P - 22/1/08 at 06:18 PM

19 now, started when I was 14, a long time ago

[Edited on 22/1/2008 by I love speed :-P]

Gezza - 22/1/08 at 06:19 PM

17 mentally going on to 46 in may

Richard Quinn - 22/1/08 at 06:22 PM

Well, I knew I wasn't the youngest or the oldest but the worrying thing was that I just had to work out how old I was this year. That isn't a good sign when I'm "only" 42 this year!!

need4speed - 22/1/08 at 06:41 PM

49 and building a pile of bits.

Loco_Bill - 22/1/08 at 06:45 PM

Fairly standard 22

matt.c - 22/1/08 at 07:04 PM

Danozeman - 22/1/08 at 07:07 PM

Im 25. Staretd building a 250 quid job when i was 17 and gave up due to rust growing faster than the chassis. Statred again at 22 when i bought a chassis.

trogdor - 22/1/08 at 07:30 PM

am 22, tho i am not building a kit i did start the orginal £250 build when i was about 11 with dad but that didn't take off. we never got our welder to work!

My saab project has been going since i was 19

TGR-ECOSSE - 22/1/08 at 07:43 PM

I posted a similar question last year here

I am 40 that means i am 20 with 20 years experience Our first car is for my 17 year old son but my youngest son also has a chassis and all the running gear and he is 14 (and he also has the yellow Mini in my sig) So maybe he is the youngest builder?

ecosse - 22/1/08 at 07:48 PM

45 and 2 years into my first build, and at the rate I am progressing I will hit 50 before I am finished it

Cheers

Alex

ernie - 22/1/08 at 08:06 PM

not quite the oldest when finished race locost at 58, but if Brian is not racing this season maybe the oldest racer

Simon - 22/1/08 at 08:08 PM

Me 42 this year, started Deimos in 2002, day before my 36th birthday, done by October 05 but not registered till Jan 06.

I was going to order a Dutton Phaeton for about £300 (new), back in about 1983

But didin't!

46 Older than I look
A lot younger than I feel these days

Phil.J - 22/1/08 at 09:05 PM

"not quite the oldest when finished race locost at 58, but if Brian is not racing this season maybe the oldest racer"

I'm still competing at 60!

Macbeast - 22/1/08 at 09:08 PM

I was born in the same month as Montgomery was giving Rommel a doing over at El Alamein.

For those of you who weren't paying attention in history class, that makes me 65.

(Edited to correct geriatric spelling)

Thank god I'm not the oldest, after all!!
(66 1/2). Building in fits and starts, since 2001.
Although 1 year off for surgery etc.

Dangle_kt - 22/1/08 at 09:59 PM

25 here. Good to see a spread of ages, means I'm not having an early midlife crisis!

milson - 22/1/08 at 10:15 PM

41 mental age 10

David Jenkins - 22/1/08 at 10:31 PM

Makes me feel quite young at 56 this August...

Mind you, I live by the rule "getting old is compulsory, growing up is optional".

NS Dev - 22/1/08 at 10:53 PM

eek I'm feeling old at 30!!

It was the 7th car I've built though, on the 8th now!

Chippy - 22/1/08 at 11:17 PM

Erm! 69 next birthday, so would say the "old man" of the scratch builders. Cheers Ray
